  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB Recon thread. Feel free to post any product information you come across.

No, no, the Equivalent in largest IMAX, with the trolley to take it around in.

Makes me wish I bought that large format lens and made a speed booster for it.

Things are rather low key before this NAB.

I really need to find some Linux camera/sensor control and recording software.

Hmm, just had a thought, anybody in?

I'm really hoping to see more COB led units this NAB, particularly in the $600-$1000 space.

I've been on the fence about grabbing a pair of Aputure 120D, as there's a lot to like about them, but something keeps telling me to hold out for NAB.

I'm in the same boat. I think aputure will have a dedicated LED fresnel this year. High output, high cri.

Heard a rumor about some heretofore unknown lenses in PL and EF mount.

Essentially some people's unicorn lenses.

Oooooooooooo! Can we get another hint ;)

There is a chance we may see HDMI 2.1/Next-gen DisplayPort products at NAB and Computex. Microsoft has just announced that the upcoming Xbox console will sport HDMI 2.1, which means displays could be launched as early as this Summer.

Sort of a scoop I guess. Litepanel Astras and their Sola lights will be getting about 40% brighter across the board from what I understand.

Also in the realm of lighting, Hive's Wasp 100-C will be shipping soon. I backed their Kickstarter on that sucker and eagerly awaiting mine.

Yeah, I have a Hive Wasp 100-c coming through KS as well, Phil! Can't wait to get mine and see how it stacks up!

NAB, Tick, tock, next week.

Any new not lights or drone related, but cheap cameras and displays, or liquid lens?

I read later night a JVC representative has said on a video there is a 900 version of the GY-LS300 they will talk about this week. I don't if this is just another model or an upgrade. The 300 has been due for an upgrade, and that various firmware upgraded features we now see should have been there from two beginning, as with the Canon 5D mk 111 magic lantern stuff is doing. For one, 10-12 bit 4:2:2 near visually lossless recording at least, even a raw continuous burst mode, a UHDp50 4:2:2 10-12 bit near visually lossless mode at least. Rec2020 support. 16 stop+ hdr 4kp50 video. A better looking body, a included compact high magnification zoom in liquid lens form (Samsung has the technology and are not in this market.

I also would hope to see a 4kp50 replacement for the old cheap fast aperture JVC hybrid fhd p50 camera they had for less than $1000 with small sensor and higher grade consumer codec (200 mb/s).

I'm going to guess that black magic will make changes to the Loews, with a micro and or pocket replacement in possibly a 4k pro video target. Possibly an 8k camera in high end. The death of a number of old models.

Red is not conning, but will the smart camera phone with lens mount/3D array turn up sometime this year, or at NAB, and give any new BM pocket a run for it's money.

We are still waiting to hear what happened to that cheap modular cinema camera from last year. If the Chinese were to buy it, we could even see something under $1000.

Bummed that RED won't be at the show this year as last year they had a really great booth w/3rd party vendors as well.

As I did last year, I'll be at NAB filming various booths/areas entirely in 360 (both recorded AND livestreamed). If you'd like to follow me, I'll most likely be livestreaming/uploading to my YT account (https://www.youtube.com/user/Pcenginefx). Feel free to ping me if there is something you want me to check out.

This is an example of what I filmed last year:
(this year, I'll have my 360 cams on gimbals so should be really smooth).

Thanks Aaron.

Sony A9 released, not much to see.

Re-edit:
JVC has firmware upgrade 4.0 for GY-LS300CH with 4:2:2 in 4k 8bit upto 30fps but has an external recording mode at 50/60. All these upgrades would have been good to sell cameras when it came out. People here actually advised this camera. But when I saw 50mb/s I thought shame and walked on. At 150-200mb/s 12 bit 4:2:2 4k would have been useful, but in 4kp50 for all us action people. If JVC wants to be a low end leader again, they need to start thinking like BM, sign technology deals with Red whatever Aptina is now, drop 2/3rds of their models, make!the other 1/3rd fill in the functions of deleted 2\3rds, and beef up the specs of their cameras. Better to have lines a tens of thousands of cheap cameras then models of hundreds or thousands here and there (that's OK for cameras worth tens of thousands).

NAB preannouncements should be coming.

Light 16 now with single camera 4k has new pictures and a release date.

Single camera 4k lacks all the multiple camera computed photography advantages of the stills mode.
