  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2015 - Lies, damn lies and rampant speculation

I'd like to see a Red Camera + Gimbal Module that docks into the Dji Inspire 1 Gimbal port.

Lightweight Raw Recording from the Air, that's less likely to Brain someone if something goes haywire?

No need to freak out to see that the magic box is only a box and ergonomics ins't Epic's best. As you say, you can live with it or go around the problem, but as a DoP that shoots mainly handheld, YES I coud have a better shoulder rig experience. I've been shooting with this "great 3D box" design since 2011, 4 years now and I would love to see some design emproovements and a new home to the great Dragon sensor.

About ergonomics, I'm still wondering where the shoulder pad is that Jim& Jarred announced quite some time back... It looked pretty awesome. Too bad they didn't release it- whatever the reason

Btw we need new pro i/o meizler mixed module so camera can get little longer for shoulder balance not most front heavy body.

I'm curious about this as I have 8 Redvolts that are seriously underperforming.
Did you discharge them first or put them in 'fully charged'? Also, given the freezer's humid environment, did you put any silica gel in there with them?
 
I've heard that putting Li-ion batts in the freezer is a bit of a internet myth... That said, I'd be willing to try anything to get 30mins per RV (just so long as it doesn't risk breaking them entirely). I essentially only use them in the sidehandle as a v-mount hot-swap solution.

But, yeah, if RED could make new RVs (that are backwards compatible) that actually lasted ~45-60mins, that'd be quite amazing. Like when I strip the camera down to just the Sidehandle/RV+SSD+lens mount and EF glass, it's almost sad how much more manageable its weight is; you can actually hold it like a hasselblad. I'd be much more inclined to take it out even on non-shoots (as in, more like a DSLR).

OH AND DEFINITELY a Canadian based RED store/office/service centre. The customs crap & shipping costs have been a huge issue for me. I may be biased, but I think FL and NY stores are kind of redundant and expensive, without really offering too much benefit to RED owners -- if you're inside the continental US, how much does it cost to ship next-day to RED-HQ?

+) Virtual Reality device with wireless video with rotating image dependent on horizontal level of camera.

+) or a Wireless FIZ with screen menu feedback that replaces Redmote ... but is compatible with next gen low latency 4k video transmission.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if there among all the geeky new technology were a v-lock battery capable of two days continuous runtime?
Just imagine a shoot where you never ever change battery or need to find a place to charge? Technology is actually existing but I'm not sure why there's never any new v-locks using this new battery tech.

And REC below it. Whatever that thing is, it is over the sidehandle/switchblade slot. So my guess is that it's a new quiet fan since it appears to have also replaced the bottom fan with a larger dragon logo.

My guess is that the side thing is a wireless wifi receiver.

Not to wander off topic here but could you maybe start another post sharing some details? When you say x2, does that mean for 2 nights? And, as someone asked, did you guard against moisture? Thanks!

Wireless in that slot makes total sense. I can go for that. :-) How bout more than just Wifi?? THC uses radio, maybe that is also in there. While we are at it, how about wireless video too? =-)

Jared's post does say "new Wings", so I suppose it involves flying; a gimbal or drone accessory. Wireless fits that scenario. ... as does keeping the module close to the center of gravity instead of hanging off of the back.
