  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2014 - REDLINK DEVELOPMENT KIT

Is there anyway of making the RedLink Module have a Module connector on the back of it, so it keeps the module nature of the Epic and doesn't always have to be at the end of the camera?

It was mentioned at NAB and in this very thread that there would be more REDLINK capable hardware on it's way.

The REDLINK Development Kit is exactly that. A development kit. You can certain develop applications and use it as a tool for a production, but it's focus is to give the tools to developers to start working on applications now for future release.

Jarred has hinted that this is more of a developers tool and that more devices are in development. I suspect many 3rd party companies will be joining the party soon.

Update: Phil beat me to the punch!

Easy tiger:wink5: - don't get ahead of yourself there.
The lens motors (external or internal) won't keep up with fast snap as they have to accelerate and decelerate. Lets keep it real shall we?

I mentioned Birger and the Optitron earlier in this thread. Can you comment on whether you will be adapting the Optitron to interface with RED native Canon mounts via REDlink, and, if so, what kind of time frame you expect before release?

The SDK looks very promising. We'll have something for Cine Gear ;)

If it's not too presumtuous of me to say, think in terms of keeping bulk down and facilitating power from both a common small battery (e.g., Canon DSLR) and a D-tap as well as. I'm hoping it will be gimbal friendly for those that will do single operator work and want to mount the controller on a handle or something (and the Letus Helix which I'm targeting uses traditional V/AB battery belt clip w/ d-tap available). And, of course, you will have to significantly beat the price of the THC and probably even the anticipated price of the RED two-axis controller that was announced though not shown in final form at NAB.:-) But early June sounds promising!

Price is the big question, agreed.

Jarred...

The more I think about it's insane possibilities and the more I love the Redlink... MAKE IT so that I can mount it some were else on the camera so that DOESN'T force me to remove my BELOVED XL Module from the rear... And I'll buy it right NOW... ;)

fully insured. Willing to pay to try it out.

Are these even in the wild yet? I ordered the Dev kit but it hasn't shipped yet.

Ordered afternoon Day 1. My BSR just told me mine is shipping today. :)

Red, Mikal or any with the Developer's Kit,

Is the gyro data accessible in there?

Sorry Scott didn't saw your post earlier on...

Yes gyro data is sent automatically by camera 10 times over a 3 seconds period (that's 3.3 times per second) both for pitch and roll angle, with a precision of 1/10000 degree.

Oh schweet!

Did someone say motion control? Damn.

I wonder why that data has not been included in the RMD by now. It would surely help in matching VFX. I would be very surprised if The Foundry, Assimilate et al. were not all over the Developer's Kit. There are exciting times ahead.

It would definitely help in applications such as the virtual camera that Peter Jackson and James Cameron use. Red could easily become the hands down, default VFX camera of choice if it isn't already.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for my mis-spelling. :-)
