  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2014 - RED SWITCHBLADE-M

Did you accidentally mean to call your multitool the Switchblade and this the Sidewinder? :)

I finally got a chance to look at this puppy on a computer screen instead of a phone. The assignable buttons will totally do the trick as a lock/unlock, just like they do on the touchscreen.

I'm so excited for this... it's a perfect solution.

Hehehe Brook, I thought the exact same thing.... it seemed weird when I saw the Sidewinder announced :)

Really nice guys. Wish we had this from day one. I took one look at the email you sent showcasing the product yesterday, and headed straight to the web store to order 2.
Cheers,
Harry

Announcing the RED SWITCHBLADE-M

Machined aluminum Side-mounted tool-less camera control interface with OLED attaches in place of the side handle.

$950 - Coming soon...

Just bumping my query - by tool-less do you mean it can be installed and removed EASILY & INSTANTLY without tools?

If so, is it safely hot swappable? If not, I can see a lot of fried Swithblades and/or cameras!!

The current DSMC Sidehandle is tool-less, but at least takes a conscious decision with a built in time needed to install/detach, which gives a little safety margin to accidentally hot swapping it. A "too quick & easy" release mechanism seems a bit dangerous.

Eric - if you look closely at the pics, you see a little built-in threaded screw at the bottom. Clearly, you have to make a conscious decision to pull out the little ring and unscrew it before it will come off. Looks like it mounts very much like a Side Handle.

Eric, it attaches similarly to the side handle. There is a "tongue" on the top that you slip in first before camming the switchblade down and using a thumbscrew to secure it.

Certainly more intuitive the way you describe the two items. Some of us who are often attention challenged could order the more expensive item while thinking we were ordering the less expensive one due to the intuitive nature of the terminology.

Plus, I think we will spend a lot of wasted time on set explaining that though the tool is called a switchblade and not a sidewinder, I actually meant for you to bring me the Switchblade thingy instead of the Sidewinder allen wrench-looking set. Now run back up the hill to the van and bring me the item that attaches to the side of the camera. And hurry! Magic Hour is about to run out!

Just saw this.
This improves things significantly.

Great job guys, hats off.

I don't understand. If we have a Side Handle already, why should we buy one? Apart from the weight difference.

Maybe I'm missing something :-)

I use the Side Handle a lot and I am very comfortable with it. Why should I replace it with this item?

I do agree, though, that options are always good! I'm just trying to wrap my head around the advantages of this new item.

Thanks!

Gimbals, aerials, tight spaces going as minimal as possible when needed. StediCam etc etc etc etc…...

I am moving to the XL Module and getting the Dual Outrigger Handle, so this works for me better than the Side Handle.
