I will not be at NAB :-( It's just way to far for me to go there from here (Germany)

Doesn't matter. I'll sneak the web for nab/red/scarlet related stuff and post it at digitalredvolution.com, my blog about the red scarlet.

Can't wait to read stuff :-)

GPSchnyder

BTW, Jim, will you or your Team come to Europe to present som RED stuff? I'd really like to meet you guys.

I too can't be at NAB. But I'll sure be checking the RED website for any updates ...

For more info...click Refresh on RED.com if you are not at NAB or drop by the booth if you are :)

With Apple there is a protocol; Steve does a keynote and the website is down- after the keynote, presto new goodies on apple.com.

What is the fastest way for those of us in other parts of this American empire to see the new products?

Will red.com beat the NAB show bloggers?

my thoughts

From a standpoint of a photographer here goes: AT NAB 2008

A wish list, convergence

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/red-raw.shtml

who cares about another 4k/2k/hd/video acquisition device for cinema, web, home theater.

Give me a DSLR that shoots up to 96 frames a second to some sort of high speed flash memory, not limited by seconds of bursts but minutes, plus ISO from 50 to 26,000 + , ie: a RED NIKON D3, capable of using VR lenses, realtime viewer, wireless to laptop built in...

For Red/ Scarlet:
All Weather pencil beam wireless acquisition system so no longer have to have drives on board.

Infrared/ Ultraviolet sensor system to take image acquisition to full usable spectrum / raw recording. And, be able to pull spectrum as needed to manipulate in camera or post.

Conjecture is futile, it really comes down to the glass in front of the sensor/ gate.

There are some cameras with no internal UV/IR filters, designed for forensic work. The one I've read about is the Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro UVIR http://www.dpreview.com/news/0608/06080904fujifilms3prouvir.asp

For UV, apparently quartz lenses are recommended, they are somewhat rare & expensive. It's not a great general purpose camera because (1) you have to add filters to get normal color reproduction and (2) as Josch mentions, I don't think there are any lenses which are achromatic across IR+VIS+UV.* So to get a crisply focused image, even if you're going to monochrome, you have to select your spectrum with filters (or use limited-spectrum lighting).

*unless if you have a "lens" using only mirrors, and no refracting elements. I haven't seen too many of those designed for regular cameras though. The compact tele "mirror" lenses I've seen are actually catadioptric, using both lenses + mirrors.

i have a press pass and will be focusing on trying to make some sense of the explosion of 3rd-party accessories and some other RED-related stuff...but i don't know that it will be easy to get close to RED, though, i think they will be swarmed.

Jim,

I don't think we'd be unhappy if this was a regular event with RED announcing amazing products every year. you could be the apple of the Camera world. if anybody would like to build a bluetooth module for the RED ONE so we could use our iphones to set shot information that would make me really happy too

would be like an iphone or RED Slate app for the Iphone that could allow us to also use the iphone as a control device. use gpio to set ramping parameters remotely. stop and start the camera remotely.

its a guess.
1. scarlet
2. a realtime 4k nle editing, grading, compositing and finnishing software coupled with hardware i/o and an industry wide 4k codec.
3. a 4k field monitor and a studio monitor
4. red 2

anyway Jim that would shock the entire industry,
if I get 2 out of 4 correct, i expect free cigars

May I suggest all the 1st 1000s early believers in RED can sigh a contract with RED.com to secure our upgrade FIXED investment from 4K to 6K or even 8K sensor at NAB 2008 to blow the NAB gigs this year ?

3D Version of RED one named " RED 3 " ?

3D is BIG @NAB this year.

WOW

Or in place of RED2.... "We've cut the price of RED by five thousand dollars! :)

And then everyone says.... :)

yeah, i like that

No, I prefer :

The Red One Base Production Pack now comes standard with an Arri bridge plate and a shoulder dovetail fit for both shoulder AND tripod mounting.

That however would fit in the three smaller announcements, but it would be received by many with applause, particularly if an upgrade option is proposed to early buyers.

As to my bet to three major announcements :

- Scarlett
- 4k monitor (or projector)
- 4k realtime viewing solution for finishing

Cheers,
Damien

Anybody know that the next D-Film of James Bond will be shot on 4K camera and Digital Field Recorder in Uncompressed Raw 4K files based format.

Will all the RED owners know ?

I 'm strongly recomend RED.com should re-consider the RED Uncompress RAW from at least 2K and Later 4K OK Mr. J. Jannard ?

I look forward to your RED power.

Sorry that Mr. Jannard that this time I can not meet with you @NAB 2008 but very soon in the RED Headquarter in April or May 2008.

Keep up the RED Steam .....................

Cheers,

STEW.

5. How about cool Oakley 3-D polarized glasses for use in watching Real D playback of 3-D movies shot on RED! With the trend on the rise, 3-D glasses don't have to be 'disposable' any more.

oh, ok maybe next year then...
