Nab 2008...

A local historic theater here in Champaign-Urbana has a series where they screen a classic film every month. For example, last month was "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and February showed "Citizen Kane". This month they're showing "Wizard of Oz" and they plan to show movies like "Superman (1978)", "Lawrence of Arabia", "Last of the Mohicans", "Mary Poppins" and "2001".

Anyway, going to these movies has been one of the absolute most fun experiences. I don't know why, but as a movie-lover there's just nothing that equates to the experience of watching a movie in a theater, and especially classics.

If affordable 4k projection happened and caused something like what karapetkov is talking about, I can say it would be absolutely incredible. My theater only shows these classics one day a month, usually on a Saturday and only 2 showings. I want something EVERY week!

Glad to hear that.

Now... let's see which bank [or train ;) ] I should rob, in order to open my "Karapetkov Classic Movies" 4K cinema.

Can someone do a write up and can we get sticky approval for all of us that can't make it?

I'm particularly interested in accessories as well as potential specials/ group buy options and of course all the rest....

Please...

I'm going to finally see a RED in real life. I have a feeling it will be so busy there won't be much time for visiting.

Okay, so I got my pass for NAB in the mail yesterday. Do I need to wear the name tag at NAB and bring the plastic card they sent me as well?

Yes, they have little old lady security guards at the doors. If you don't wear the name tag neatly displayed in the plastic holder, they won't let you in. Careful which booths you let swipe the little plastic credit card looking thing. You may receive email and brochures for the rest of your natural life. Maybe beyond.

I have a 22" 3840 x 2400 display and the detail is very hard to see. On the Windows desktop text and icons are crazy small. I would love to have that resolution at 40"+

4k at 17inches makes very little sense. you couldn't even see that amount of detail in a display so small. 42 and above is better

Im hearing scarlet say something , what is it , oh yeah

As god is my witness I'll never let sony sell people over priced underdeveloped junk again !!!!!

The RED booth is such a madhouse with a long line. I think I'm only doing one day at NAB. How bout easy access for people with the RED lanyard from last year or a titanium R? I think you did that last year... well I used it to sneak into the second showing of CTL anyway.

Send me your questions for NAB

Again, I'll be covering Digital Cinema Initiative, 4K work flow solutions (and certainly RED specifically), optical innovations/advancements, newsworthy G&E stuff, and a few other things for www.scribemedia.org - with video and blogging galore.

So: I pose to you, RED community - what do you want to see? What questions do you have that you would like answered? PM me with your question and name - and I will try and find the right person to ask - and I will ask them your question in your name at NAB.

And if you're ever in NYC - stop by the Samsung showroom at Time Warner Center and check this monster out - sooo sweeet. Droool. Of course, the affordable 4K projector will make this glass monstrosity obsolete in about 30 secs.

It's going to be so funny if Jim announces something like that... 4k projector/monitors at an obscenely affordable price.

Jim is a rebel maverick and will shake this industry up. I love it.

It's going to be... an interesting week :-)

Ted will Red provide a "rollout" on the web for the 98% that cannot be there due to work? Will Red provide some type of web presence so the rest of us feel included and can make some final decisions about purchases?

Any and all efforts are greatly appreciated.

Thank you Ted and I wish you guys all nothing but success,

Andrew Benz (#557)

don't worry - I'll be blabbing it up as usual... I think you will all be pleasantly surprised at what we are going to show off at NAB - so try and get there if you can.

You know better than to ask questions like that! All will be revealed next week. I've said before that Christmas is no fun if you know what you're getting from Santa Claus, and it's the same with RED. We don't want to spoil the surprise!

Graeme

Not Ted, but I can say that you should begin clicking refresh on RED.com right about when NAB opens its doors.
