  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MY NEW COMP!

12 Cores of Xeon Goodness @ 4.3 GHz.

12 Cores of Xeon Goodness @ 4.3 GHz.

12 Cores of Fury......no waiting.
:sifone:

Is this new enough?

this is cool to see. Apple suck at pro offerings and the ageing Mac Pro, well is ageing.
Not enough PCIe slots for Smoke / Resolve so build your own is the way forward.
Pity Apple can't wake up from there iDream and stop playing with their iToys.

Has anyone build a dual CPU hackintosh yet?

So you've tested with Red Rocket and working and no other hang ups? I had a friend build a hackintosh based on some of the specs in this thread and he ran into issues. Looks smokin' though!

There are no hangups with REDRocket or any other PCIe card. The only hangup is the person building the hackintosh and installing the software. A hackintosh is only as good as it's builder and the hackintosh knowledge that he or she has. That hackintosh experience can vary wildly and those variations could possibly cause hangups but not because of the RED Rocket or any other PCIe card. When done right, any PCIe card will work fine. The weak link in all of this is the installer and their hackintosh knowledge, NOT the hardware being installed.

I have and it works just like the real Mac Pro Dual Xeon, only it outperforms it. Like the pics you see on this page, I have full control over the CPU speed and it operates at 4.3 GHz, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Will this motherboard suffice? I only ask because it works with OSX and the upcoming 2010 Mac Pro has no chance going up against it.:sifone:

If anyone in LOS ANGELES wants to test my Hackintosh with a RED Rocket card or to test edit 2k or 4k

footage without a RED Rocket card installed, just Skype me or contact me though here. I will gladly bring
it on

over.

You are only half correct but that's ok.

SR2 does not work with EFI-X, True.
SR2 does not work with any current method POSTED on the internet, True.
SR2 does not work with any Chameleon version currently POSTED on the internet, True.

The latest version of Chameleon RC5, that is not yet posted on the internet, but that I possess, DOES in fact work with OSX 10.6.4 with 2 Intel Hex Core CPU's @ 4.3 GHz. Vanilla Kernel and all.

EVGA SR-2 does not work under EFI-X or any current method for hackintoshes, Chameleon etc

Excellent, any idea when it will be posted, I have an SR-2 system here that would be perfect to rock as a renderbox.

As soon as I can personally get my hands on the SR2 board and the xeon cpus that go with it. That is the only thing stopping me from posting it on here tonight. Don't ask me, "How do you know if you don't even have the board yet?" Trust me when I tell that I already know it works even though it is not on the internet yet and I have not installed OSX on it yet.
The 12 Logical Core Hackintosh does not yet exist anywhere except where I have personally posted it on the internet either. LOL

I really think it's time for Steve Jobs to license MAC OSX for OEM. It would be a logical, smart move IMO. After all ... he has iOS ....

Could you try to convince him of that for me? OSX's (and the software that runs on it) market share would certainly go through the roof a whole lot faster if he did.
I don't think he will listen to me though. LOL :iagree:

yeah licensing Mac OS would be a great solution as Apple seem incapable of providing high end pro machines so it makes sense to build one yourself and avoid being stuck with a restricting MacPro.

Is there a board that has 4 x 6Pin power for 2 Power Hungry GPU's?
That one you showed only has 2 x 6Pin's so you could only run 1 x nVidia Quadro 5800.

Resolve needs 2 x GPU's

With Hackintosh is there anyway to get SLi working?

Well, I do not know of any, but you can have as many as how many Molex 4pin your power supply provides. There is a $5.00 adaptercable that provides a 4 to 6 pin, which I have used without a problem

cool.
Its crazy how Apple are missing the boat on the pro market. I've been using Mac's for 18 years and really don't mind buying Apple but if Apple won't deliver the goods then what are you supposed to do.

There are 2 x 6 Pin and 2 x 8 pins connectors on the board but those are solely to power the board. You could install 4 Quadro 5800's (no SLI on OSX) on this board if you wanted to (with the right power supply). Cables connect to the Quadro 5800's directly from the power supply.

While hackintoshes are sweet, like everything you pay for it.
You may get better hardware or lower cost, but you need to invest time to design, build and finally support it. For some people its a great option, for others Apples official products offer better value.
But I think everyone can respect each others choices and Macs and HackMacs can co-exist peacefully.

Highly doubtful, as it would not be profitable enough. The costs with supporting OS X for OEMs would be high, and when you increase your marketshare you increase the likelyhood of OS X becoming a major target for malware, thus devaluing the products reputation for security.
That and the fact that it will eat into current Mac sales.
In the end I cant see how this would be a good move for Apple.
