  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

my EOS "smart" mount...

Hey Andy I'd love to meet and see your mount in NYC - where will you be?

Doug (and other NYC folk) - I've got message in to Andy. Going to try and set up a mount demo evening over at the place where he & some of my buddies work in midtown. It would be great to get two "Mount Kings" in the same room together. There's a King Crimson joke in there somewhere, but I won't pursue it.

Will let people know if he's down for the meet.

Cool. I could bring some new R1 goodies, too.

Sweet. So I've gotten the go-ahead to schedule something for 8:00pm Wednesday, Dec. 3. This will be near Grand Central. Anyone who's interested, please email me directly at the address below (no PM's), so I can get a head count by, say, November 30th. We may have to cap attendance if there are too many, so first come, first served. Admission will be: one lens mount, or one bottle of something to share with the class. ;-)

Hey, you've noticed the first public showing of "The Mount" will be in NYC. very excited to have everyone get to check it out.
it's been a interesting road getting here. I am working on setting up a showing the following week somewhere in los angeles as well.

Things are busy It's full swing in assembly mode right now. trying to put together as many as I can per day, I'll post some pictures this weekend at a
behind the scenes peek at assembly. (not really exciting stuff at the moment,
it's the final push to get everthing finished and out) but something none the less.

I want to comment about the "dumb mount" version, there really hasn't been
enough interest 5-10 people max. so that's why there hasn't been much action an all the focus has been on the smart controller.

but I understand your feelings, I mean the dumb mount is all I initially
wanted to make for myself.. so I will assemble a batch of dumb mounts
this weekend, and have info first of next week how you can get one if you
want. It will probably just be the smart mount body without the electronics since doing multiple production runs isn't cost effective.

If I show up can I bring one home?? maybe?

I'll be in New York on the 3rd for a shoot. Mitch, I sent you and email. I really hope my shoot is done in time for the festivities.

Will it be upgradeable? Or dumb... forever. And does it work like I think and I change the aperture by putting it on my canon body and changing it there? I get my Nikon mount monday, but if it this works, then maybe I'll return that. How much? I guess you'll say everything Monday. I'm in LA, by the way. Thanks!

Not much new to report yet, it's assembly time.. going to get ordering details
for the dumb mount up by tomorrow night. just finishing up a few things.
here's a picture of controllers in various states of assembly. it's real, just
piecing everything together now. looking forward to the new controller cases most likely on wednesday. now back to soldering...

Jason: don't see why it couldn't be upgraded later, since it's going to be the
same base mount as the smart one just without the electronics.

-Andy

That's perfect Andy. What people have been wanting. Just to be able to shoot something and then upgrade. Thanks for the update.

Very Nice. Where and when we can start buying these?

Andy,
Fantastic news. I have sent three PM's with no answer. I would like to order the mount as soon as the Smart aspect is arranged and rolling out. Are you going to get someone in to help with the obvious backlog in PM responses???

Cheers,
Mark.

Mark: my apologies. I'm going to spend more time here fielding questions as we get closer
to final shipments, since things are kinda at the mercy of my parts supply places and it's just down to final assembly. Also there will be someone shortly that can be used as a
support person so no one feels ignored.. I still am going thru PM's from weeks ago.

As soon as you have price and shipping (pickup?) news on the dumb mount, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi ANdy,
Thanks for getting back to me, appreciate it. As you can imagine chomping at the bit for almost a year to use Canon glass and almost there. No malice intended just trying to stay contained for the mount.

Look forward to hearing from your support staff for pricing and purchasing info.

Cheers,
Mark.

Quick update...

Ordering web page will be up tomorrow evening, sorry it is a bit delayed due
to "day job" interference... such is life at the moment.

Pricing and shipping schedule tomorrow as well. plan is to roll out dumb mounts, which
now WILL be upgradeable in the future to smart versions, as well as smart
base mounts... (basically all the connectors, without the control module)
difference of about a week, for shipment., also we have our own deadline
to ship full units with control module in time for the holidays.
next week, demo in NY... following week LA demo, then ship. either that week
or the next, I'll even wrap the mounts and put bows on them if ya want...

stay tuned.

Thats great news Andy, I'll go for a lagoon turquoise blue ribbon on mine please. I'm living, for now, an a small island in deepest darkest Indonesia so please make sure to kick me once the smart mounts are ready. My order will be there before you finish the eMail ???

Cheers,
Mark.

If you're doing NY you should seriously considering doing Toronto (and probably Montreal and Vancouver) too. We have significant quantities of REDONEs here, especially in the rental shops.

We are, after all "Hollywood North"!

Oh ya... I want one (or 2) too!
What are wait times like these days?

James
