  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

my EOS "smart" mount...

This is where it all started, this quote is from takano-san:

Hello my good RED friends. This is very nice product but I would like to tell cautionary warnings for using EOS USM lenses on video camera.

I was member of team to design the USM long time and they no good for video and can cause bad trouble to USM motor mechanism for signal active very long time. For this reasons, we do not put still photo USM lens on Canon video lens products. In testing we burn motors inside USM lens on XL2 product. Just be warning for my friends to use no USM motor lenses. Normal Lenses ok!!

OK, that sounds pretty authoritative. Carry on worrying :)

Could you be a little more specific?
There appear to be three different designs of the USM motor, the Ring type, the Micro USM and the Micro USM2 does this word of caution apply to all three or just one or two of the designs?
If so, can you list the linses for which it applies?
Thanks

Takano-san was met with some disbelief and he seems to have vanished from this forum. There was quite a discussion over on the birger thread reagarding this though.

Is the unit shipping in quantity?
Is there a website with a "store"? The Blog is dated.
I just found this and I'm interested.

What would the price be?
Thanks in advance.

DOH! Found post 174....
Obviously things are on the mend.

Okay I deserved that!

Still deserved it lol!
Wish I had this mount right now for shoot Friday!

Has anyone had their PM's answered regarding orders for this mount?? I've written a number of times to get total silence thus far.......any further news?

Cheers,

Hi everyone, been away on a project. playing catch-up today. will post the latest as soon as I get caught up.

all is moving forward have piles of parts to assemble..

quick notes..

after lots of testing, things look good, just stupid logistics are left before we
can get these things out, anyone know a good custom cable assembler? cables are single most time consuming task Ive discovered.

few more quick things.

Manny: I'll be in touch shortly, would love to test some more glass.

Notes on Power/Motor Burnout.... don't worry about it. we mimic canons power structure very well, so that's not an Issue.

I'm going to try to get a "real" ship date soon. everything is pretty much
final now. (new controller box with mounting holes similar to the red-lcd is at manufacture now) just a few loose ends left.

RED has been pretty busy (as ya can imagine) so I haven't been down to
present my final product yet. hopefully that will happen soon.

p.s I like the knock knock comic, need to use that at work with certain clients. hehe.

pps. I will be in NYC on a project for the week of 11.30 > 12.7 if anyone is
out there I'll bring a mount along to demo if interested. ?

I copied and pasted this from a previous post. Not sure if there was a price change after this post:

Price
-----

Plain Dumb Mount - 295$
Smart Mount (no Controller) - 695$
Smart Mount to Canon Body Cable - 150$

Andy,

Can you provide us a dumb mount now? We can forego the cables and stuff for later. Maybe send the dumb mount we buy from you and have it upgraded, etc. I wouldn't even care if I had to change the aperture by changing it on my 40D camera first.

Please let us know. I'll buy one today and drive over and pick it up today!

Does anyone have andy's phone # or can contact him to ask about getting the dumb mount now?
