I'm looking for the best bang for the buck, usable at 8K 600mm lens on the market.

Currently I'm looking into the Sigma 150-600 Sport. Anyone has experience with this lens on a Weapon ? The alternatives are the Tamron equivalent and a Canon 100-400 L II with the 1.4 extender. Not looking into primes because I'm mainly shooting motorsports and I need the zoom versatility .

Have looked online for references but the results seem very mixed in the stills world...

All help appreciated.

I already own the 70-200 2.8 LII, the 300 2.8L, and will have access to the canon 100-400 and the 200-400 for a particular motorsport job, but would like to personally own one. Cannot fork out the money for the 200-400 to own, though.

Sergio,

Are you able to rent and try the Sigma at a local rental house/business? Or even better, just take your camera in and do a test right there at the rental house (assuming you have access to them).

Unfortunately no rental houses with these lenses over here. We do have access to CPS ( canon professional services) which is were we will rent the hewvy duty stuff. I just wanted to own one of these super telephotos for certain situations were urgency, spontaneous shooting is needed. Narrowed to Canon 100-400 II and the Sigma Sport. If its anywhere near the Arts- 35mm and 50mm primes which I own I would get it in an instant. However their 20 1.4 just plain sucks, which makes me want to hear you all out. What I’m seeing online doesn’t wow me with muchy colors, pinkish tint. It all looks correctable in post, however, thats wby I would love fellow reduser tho shime in. On the canon 100-400 I’ve seen impressive Moto GP stuff.

The Sigma Sport rules. Lot of bang for the buck and it is very light weight compared to cine zooms.

Peter have you tried it? How’s the focus for os motion shooters? The canon 300 2.8, for example , is terrible, the 70-200 2.8 is manageable...

Sergio, what do you mean saying the 300 mm 2.8 is «*terrrible*»?
I am wondering about the Canon 400mm F4 DO IS II USM too.
Did somebody already try it?
Thanks

It breathes too much and its damn impossible
To follow a racing car/bike.’the 70-200 is much better

Ended up purchasing the new sigma 120-300 sport 2.8. Anyone has any experience with this on Weapon/ Epic?

That is a great lens. I used it last winter filming snowboarding and it is sharp and functions nice. I also have the 150-600 C, I got it on eBay and for the price it is great to have around with that reach.

Really impressed with this lens. Sharp all the way, gorgeous Bokeh, very good manual focus ring and amazing quality. Really up there with the Canon 2.8 70-200 II in everything.

Only down side right now is the lack of OIS support for it. Red Team, pretty please?? Its a sin not being able to use its OIS. At 300 its really unforgiving for some movement shots. Not impossible, but OS would surely Help!

We did all this mostly with Red Weapon Helium, Red Epic Dragon and an Epic W. Additional stuff was with An Inspire 1 Raw drone, a Gopro Hero 5 and an on board broadcast shot.

Mostly shot with canon and sigma still lenses , mainly the 70-200 bare bones or with extender, the Canon 135 f2, 11-24L, 35mm L (1), 50 1.2 , Sigma Art 50 1.4 and 30 1.4

This year we are adding to the arsenal the Zeiss Otus 28 1.4 and the Sigma 120-300 2.8
