  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Most affordable V-mount batteries?

Bingo. This is what I've been waiting to hear. Any chance you can tell me how far the battery sticks up above the top of the camera? Thanks!

Just looked from top base of I/O to top of battery is just under 1.5 inches

I have a stupid question. I got these hyper core 98 batteries from switronix. Love them so far (using in my 1x1's at the moment since I don't have the camera yet) but just wondering if the information is supposed to be on all the time on the front screen. Seems like the batteries would drain slower when not in use. The percentage and hours remaining never turns off. The light to brighten it can be turned on and off but the info is always there. Just want to make sure this is normal for these.

Hey Tony,

After 48 hours of no use or movement of the batteries, the LCD will turn off and as soon as it detects the slightest movement, it will turn back on.

Best,

Just got my new Epic W with the back and sure enough the Global Media Pros don't fit. Only then did I discover the numerous threads on the issue. And I'm sorry but this is total bs. Red sold me two of the backs with no warning whatsoever that some batts don't fit. Why can't they just make it so all v mounts fit? I've never heard of another v mount or AB unit that doesn't fit any v mount or AB batt. And I'm sorry but none of us have enough time to keep abreast of all the various issues discussed in these threads. Not even close. Now I have a shoot upcoming this weekend and have to probably rent some slim v mounts and leave my seven global media pros at home. Thanks for the heads up Red.

I'm sorry you feel like you got burned, but it's in the Epic-W operation guide. Page 24.

Besides, the product description for the V-Lock IO expander says "to power your DSMC2 camera using RED BRICK® batteries." Doesn't matter if the connection type it is an industry standard. They can only guarantee that RED brand batteries will work. Going with anything else is a risk you must be willing to take.

Confirmed this battery on DSMC2. MAXOAK 158WH with charger (also shows %) for $239.99. Fits like a glove. http://www.amazon.com/MAXOAK-10700m...qid=1461433908&sr=8-2&keywords=maxoak+v+mount

I'm guessing the 177wh will fit as well. Same size. http://www.amazon.com/MAXOAK-12000m...qid=1461433908&sr=8-1&keywords=maxoak+v+mount

Hello Dan,

I was looking at the Amazon with regards to these MAXOAK batteries and this is what it said with regards to use with RED cameras, "PAY ATTENTION:
Do not suggest used on RED series camera. Because RED Camera's V mount size is a little diffrent with ours, our battery may have connection problem on RED series camera such as RED Epic-W Camera, RED Wooden camera blueshape V mount.RED Weapon series."

So my question is does this really work with your camera and any issues at all with them ? I am considering purchase for pricing. Thank you

i only have 2 RED Bricks and looking for some more batteries. was starting to worry about the size but i realized that i have the base expander + the v mount module. this allows to use 3rd party batteries. my only doubt is about charging. im willing to buy the Power U 190wh. anyone have used these before? is it possible to charge these in the RED Brick charger?

Hey all, if you're looking for a solid starter kit of v-mounts I'm selling my IDX Endura Duo's + charger here

We've used them on both DSMC1 (scarlet-x) and DSMC2 (epic-w, weapon CF) bodies with no issues aside from the percentage being shown as voltage instead.

These are 150wh batteries so they last for a while and also have both p-tabs and full size USB ports for your accessories.

Id be very careful with lower budget batteries. We had one "short" last weekend, and it fried out Teradek and Flanders....

We're now looking to upgrade, and invest in a higher tier brand.

Not worth the headache...

What exactly causes a battery to "short" and or fry out other electronics? I've been looking at these compact batteries from Came-TV.

https://www.came-tv.com/collections/usa-warehouse/products/came-tv-compact-v-mount-li-ion-battery-120wh-usa-warehouse

Price is good and the dimensions will fit on Raven (they are actually smaller than the switronix 82wh slims that I use) It says it has "Built in protection protects the battery from over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature."

Does that mean it will eliminate the chances of "shorts" and frying electronics?

I've had good luck with the Dracast batteries - pretty affordable and reliable with a nice charger. I recently picked up an IndiPro micro-series kit. The batteries are compact and fit on the back of my Raven nicely. The charger is great too with good connectors.

Bumping this thread from years past to see if anyone had any developments/observations on new or older V-mount solutions for RED Raven. I've got two RED bricks and am looking for 2 more V-mount batteries just to cover off on longer shoots. Any affordable, versatile recommendations that fit the Raven with i/o expander + v-mount module would be greatly appreciated.

Here's another battery that gives 222 w/hour.

I do have another battery by Powerextra that works fine
even after 2 years but I have to wonder how good the battery cells are in
model at such a low price.

One, however, could likely get close to 9 hours on a Komodo.

I moved on to Shape Full Play after RED BRICKS.
Not cheap as the Amazon options but smaller with a solid build.
There are other options similar but costs start to go higher.
