  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PRO IO update

It is still on the table.. some other things are ahead of it still though. ( cough cough proxy cough cough )

heh heh heh.

:-)
Hope the cough cough +1 cough cough is also getting some love. Would be too cool to see a recent photo of your working table ;-)

and yet, a hint of disappointment still lingers

a Pro IO module with no 3G or Dual Link HD-SDI outputs
and again, no way to get a 4:4:4 signal out of RED cameras

it seemed so obvious it would have at least 3G

it's called a red rocket...

We need a quickplate module!

I have that. And it cannot be mounted to the back of any module (i.e. module adaptor, dual or quad battery module, or probably also Pro I/O). It only seems to fit the backpack (I have that too). And the backpack only seems to fit the back of the brain.

Anything we're missing here?

See also this thread.

Right. . .this seems to be the consensus. Adrian do you have an extension module you can check it on?

Jarred - maybe you can pipe in here? Can you confirm whether the backpack set-up can work with the pro i/o (and/or other modules)

I have the module adaptor, the dual and the quad battery module. They all look the same on the back.
They neither have the dovetail kind of mount where you could slide on the backpack quickplate, nor do they have the four screw holes to mount the backpack itself.
It doesn't work. It's a different mounting system.

Jarred, the best thing that RED could provide is a quickplate module. Just a single leightweight module with a battery v-mount on its back.

ah sorry Adrian, i thought you asked what was powering the camera in the photo ( which was a quick plate tethered ) . The V-lock Backpack adapter isn't shipping yet.

But it seems like you suggest its in the works??

Its what so many of us need. Epic + pro i/o + vmount.

What do you mean by "V-lock Backpack adapter"? This sounds just like the backpack quickplate you mentioned before. And this one's shipping, I own it.
Or will this be a new DSMC module?
*confused*

And as soon as the +1 module adaptor is shipping, even more redusers will need the combination Epic + 1 module adaptor + V-Mount, me included.

of course.. we showed a prototype at NAB. V-mount to backpack adapter.

and by "v-mount" you mean the RED specific locking mechanism of DSMC modules, not the battery v-mount?

sounds good. but jeez, we'd have to add a total of THREE modules to the back of the pro i/o just to get a v-mount battery plate? Wouldn't it be much simpler to have a single DSMC module with a quickplate right on its back?

Yes the V-mount that the Redmote uses. Making a DSMC module with a quickplate would be overkill and unnecessarily expensive as you would need to add the bottom release mechanism etc. when its not needed ( the quickplate is always at the end of the chain. ) Keeping it a simple mechanical adapter keeps it low profile, and way cheaper.

But you could lose the tethering of the quickplate to the brain as such a module could directly use its connection pins. This would be a very streamlined, short and light setup. I'm sure that a lot of redusers would love that (me included).

I like that idea, if you guys are willing to pay for it...

That would likely be a $1000 accessory. Let me see some hands.

That's much cheaper than a DSMC backpack ($1,200) plus backpack quickplate ($650) plus your new adapter (likely at least $200), a total of over $2,000.
I'm in, no question! :sifone:
