  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

More news...

Obviously in this case was not reached any sort of a bilateral contract between the parties involved...

We will have the new Bomb EVF working for those who find us at the show tomorrow.. the new Bomb EVF also works with the RED ONE as Jim mentions.. so we will find the RED ONES on the show floor and give it a go for any that are interested.. it's worth seeing.

Want it now...

When you're ready to ship... that is.

Mike, what I meant was that if the subject in the frame was moving and the photosites were scanning on and off in the manner you described, then the moving object would smear itself across the frame like a slit scan exposure.
Mitch, that is in essence what a rolling shutter does. It's similar to what happens in a 35mm SLR shutter in that, for higher shutter speeds, only an increasingly narrowing slit of film is exposed at any one time.

RED is announcing the addition of several new pieces to the EPIC and Scarlet modular system.

1. The new Bomb EVF. 1/3 the size and weight of the original EVF with improved image quality. Can be used with EPIC, Scarlet or RED ONE systems.

2. A new EPIC/Scarlet OVF (optical viewfinder) module is in development.

3. New rods/rails, base plate and handheld system.

4. New battery technology that works in the accessory side handle and/or battery modules. You can also use RED Bricks with EPIC and Scarlet.

5. New types of flash memory recording modules along with CF card modules.

6. New Pro I/O module.

7. New LCDs, including two touch screen versions.

These are all in addition to the Mysterium-X sensor program that has significantly more dynamic range, higher useful ISO, and less noise than the RED ONE Mysterium sensor.

The EPIC and Scarlet system share all modules and are independently upgradeable. Upgrade only what you want/need as technology advances.

EPIC-X is 5K at 100fps with REDCODE 250. 4K and Quad HD at 125fps. 3K at 160fps. 2K at 250fps.

Jim

Optical View Finder and ND's

Optical View Finder and ND's

If you were to use an OVF on a digital cinema camera like the Epic or the D21 while you are shooting Day exteriors, the cameras are rated upwards of 500 ISO, you would would have somewhere around 5 stops of ND compensation, how are you able to still see anything through the viewfinder?

If one were shooting 35mm film you could shoot a slower stock or if using PV cameras use Behind the lens filtration. Am I missing something? What have people done with the D21 on day exteriors in full sun and what would you plan to do with an Epic?

Dave

Wondering if Light Peak (high-speed optical cable technology to connect electronic at 1GB/s) technology will be some how incorporated into the new Red solid state recording device?

Why and how should RED incorporate that kind of prototype technology into a product ready for market release? No, RED should stick with as many ESTABLISHED industry standards as possible. So far, LP is only a technology demonstration.

sorry i am confused....can you elaborate more on what it is that you are talking about

What is going on with OVF module after 10 months?

They are not working on one.. Everyone cries for one, but no one wants to PAY for one. They are expensive.
Jim says he'll make it, if enough people put down a deposit.

So far... Nada

Jay

Not everyone cries for one.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo
