Monkey Extract Questions

Hi Phillip,

Unfortunately this feature is still in development and shouldn't have made it on to the splash screen at the start (a bit of a slip on our part). It will be happening but is still at least a few weeks away I believe.

I'll let you know once it is complete.
Nigel
I will open up premiere and have a look-see and I will get back to you as why that has happened - thanks for looking... Talk soon

I have a problem with renaming my .R3D files and i was wondering if Rubber monkey would be able to help me do my job more efficiently. i have alot of stereo footage that needs to be renamed so i can continue my edits in Speed Grade XR. only problem is i am used to using Name Mangler to rename all my footage for my "SI 2K" but for my red one the files are named "L004_C004_0101R4_003" (< for my left) and "R004_C004_0101B9_003" (< for my right) and i have been changing every .R3D file one at a time wich has slowed down my pace of work immensly. and i noticed that Rubber Monkey could change the file names would it do that one at a time or all at once? and i dont have red alert so i wouldnt be able to run Rubber monkey... would anyone have a workflow to rename .R3D files for stero into Speed Grade?

Monkey Extract would only allow you to rename the camera and Reel (i.e. the L004 or R004). You also need to remember that changing the filename may not be enough (depending on your target application) since the R3D metadata is typically used to determine all the file attributes anyway.

well what does the 6 digit number after the camera and reel represent? and i understand that by renaming my .R3D along with my .MOV the .mov is no longer able to preview. but upcoming i have about 7 3d rigs using R3D One and i have to have the left and right camera names changed (and each rig has over a hundred takes) so i can link them in my speedgrade XR 2009. you know of anything that could batch rename the files? the camera and reel name arent the problem its the 6 digit thats the problem... "L001_C001_'0104R9'_001" (i.e 0104R9) any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

Is monkey supporting build 194 of Redline? Will a new version of Monkey be released once it's compatible with new Redline and Redcine-x?

The first 4 digits are the date, the last two digits are random characters generated to ensure uniqueness. It is actually designed to ensure that two clips aren't named the same.

I don't know of any tools that can batch rename unfortunately. In fact, I don't know of any other tools that update R3D metadata at all.

I am working on build 194 support right now.
It shouldn't take too long (hopefully)

Redcine-x export is also at the top of our list.

Just finished editing our feature we shot for 2.35 4K HD (3840x2160). I would like to render out in Monkey Extract a 2K version for our Colorist. Should I use resolution scale / crop in order to do this? If so what would be the best width and height? Could I also save on the .dpx frame size by cropping where the 2.35 matte is going anyway? If so what would be the appropriate procedure for that?

You will get the best results rendering at full debayer and using scaling to drop it down to 2K. I guess you could also add a crop if you have redundant areas in your frame as well if it's an issue. Just run a few quick tests to get the correct crop height and y value.

Awesome. Thanks. Do you know what the proper scale would be for 3840x2160 to 2K? Is it: 2048x1024 or 2048x1152 or 1382x1152. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question. Thanks again.

Um... its whatever you want it to be :)
It really depends how much you are cropping and what output aspect ratio you are aiming for.

I suspect you want to aim for 2048x1152...

Monkey Extract alpha - for Rocket and RedCine-X

Monkey Extract alpha - for Rocket and RedCine-X

I have a test version of Monkey Extract that:
1> uses the 194 REDline beta
2> exports .lua scripts for the 221 beta of Redcine X

For those of you who aren't in the loop, the latest redline beta includes RedRocket support and MX Sensor support.

You can download it here.
http://www.rubbermonkeysoftware.com/downloads/Monkey_Extract/Monkey_Extract_3.201.zip

You'll need the latest Redline beta (and RCX beta if you are redcine exporting). There are links to those over at this post:

Please send any feedback to support@rubbermonkey.co.nz

Looks like was an error in the installer.
If you've just downloaded it, please try again.

How to use the new color science on version 3.201?

How to use the new color science on version 3.201?

Hi Gopal,

Color science is automatically applied by the 194 beta of Redline.
The new tab in the Monkey Extract render settings also has a drop box that allows you to select an older color science version for older footage. The default is to use the current color science version.

Cheers
Craig
