  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Misc. Update...

No way I'd want to spoil the party...

No way I'd want to spoil the party...

... of course we are with you ! We have proved that, haven't we ? Red has totally changed the game, and Red has brought to us a totally different filming experience. Something no indie like me would have even thought possible. Seeing you always ahead on the cutting edge of technology is fully reassuring.

Saying that, future and present are different things, as are vision and everyday's business. It doesn't seem that Red fully acknowledges the reliability issues about redmote, bomb evf, etc., as by now, letting the opinion spread on this board that some important parts of the Epic are definitely not meeting the industry standards, and sometimes useless. However diferent opinions can be, however likely a faulty sample can be, the whole thing looks more serious than that. That creates confusion, since answers from red are scarce, if any, or ambiguous. I remember the issues on the early R1, but I don't remember that kind of silence. Competition does like that, it seems. I see grinning faces around again.

Compatibility issues are serious issues, too... One reason why we are with you is that we believe and have believed in obsolescence obsolete. Compatibility of parts worth thousands of USD is part of that. Red drive was announced to be compatible, then left aside. Ok with that, and Red made an offer about it. How about R1EVF ? Especially when bomb evf is criticized. How could single cameramen be left with the touchscreen lcd only as a framing/focussing tool?

This may not be the right place to post. Anyway...

I am in.

.... since 2006

...and will be all the way

I'm really looking forward to the Dragon upgrade.

Hope that it'll make EPIC more powerful than ever and Scarlet as powerful as Epic was before the upgrade.

REDcolor3 and REDgamma3 are close... we have had a few tweaks. Expect a firmware release for EPIC, Scarlet and the RED ONE very soon. Also expect immediate support for REDCINE-X Pro and the SDK.

I couldnt be happier with my Scarlet - X (or is that, I don't yet know that I can be even happier with my Scarlet-X ? :P )

At the risk of pressing a question thats probably further down the list of 'Things RED can change in the industry for the better...' , Is there any news on the Redmote Pro?

GREAT NEWS all around! Really amazing where you started and where you have gone thus far. It's been a great ride, Looking forward to what the future holds. Most definitely with you! Red is my midlife crisis come true He He:)

I am and proud to say it. Red's got a plan that I believe in and our clearly developing tools I want to use.

Our 3D projector has been seen by many of the top dogs in the industry. It appears, according to them, to be the single best and only way to view 3D... in the home or theater. This is the one. It is a huge leap. Maybe the difference between 3D dying and 3D being mandatory.

Does this mean no glasses? I guess I'll have to get another Epic :)
I've been having so much fun shooting with my Epic... I can't wait to see what's next.

Because Jim expressed his anger at other companies for sticking with the active glass I believe that will not happen, but I don't think it's glass free 3D, it's too advanced and I rather have glasses and a beautiful image then no glasses and something "meh". I think this is going to be passive, like in theaters, just lightyears better then the LG passive TV:

I'm actually waiting for this projector more then anything else from Red, we have had the Red One for a while and then the Epic and Scarlet and they are too good for anything we can view it on. This projector will finally enable us to view true 4K material. I might even go back and do a 4K master of the movie we mastered in 1080p, with the new color science etc.

If this projector is anything near what I think it is, it will blow the market away, not just the industry but consumer business as well. Why would you like a fullHD TV at 8000 USD when you could have this?

RED began in 2006 as a garage operation. We had 3 employees. Today there are over 500. Next year there will be over 1000.

I've been a customer since that first NAB and it's been an unbelievable, life-changing ride ever since! I got my Epic X today... surprisingly it was at least as exciting as the day I got my Red One back in early 2007. If it's anything even close to this, I can't wait for what the future holds in store!

Thanks for the update, Jim! You and the whole RED team are and always have been amazing at what you do.

It this 4K projector is also going to be offered for the home, it should have a noise level of 31dB or less.
Otherwise, it will be a bit distracting in quiet scenes.

as someone gearing up to do their first short film in a few years, there's no more exciting thought than finally digging into the epic and the new color science. so excited to work with it all and share.

just got home from a late night shoot with my 2 week old Scarlet, I could not be more pleased with my purchase. Every morning my Scarlet is the first thing my eyes see and it always gives me a big smile.

Really looking forward to the future you have paved for us.

Can't wait for Dragon and new Firmwares YEAH!

I haven't posted much lately... been pretty busy getting ready to deliver the future... again.

The Dragon sensor is in full development. It will be the dream come true. Trust me.

2012 will be the year of EPIC. So many features are being released that are shot on EPIC it is hard to keep track. I guess this is the year that RED sheds the "scam" moniker. Coming up... The Amazing Spiderman, Total Recall, Prometheus, The Great Gatsby, and The Hobbit... among many others.

Our production facility in Irvine is something that we are so proud of... it breaks all the rules and gives hope to a future beyond China.

REDray is real. After a long development process... REDray will be released this year. It will be the highest quality image with the lowest data rate ever achieved in the history of man. We fully expect it to be the gold standard going forward.

We love and appreciate our customers. And it is paramount that we don't disappoint them. We won't.
