  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Misc. Update...

Actually you are very wrong about this. Supposadly Toshiba gave Paramount 50 million to adopt HD-dvd. So Paramount accepted. But in the end Blu-ray won because of the Playstation 3.

Yes you are right and Gaven is wrong. HD-DVD was essentially pushed out by the PS3 for including Blu-Ray, and the Anti Microsoft sentiments for Vista. Personally I believe a standard proprietary media format is the way to go for 4k. Please can we just agree on ONE FORMAT. How many USB connectors are there? Media needs to be like the thunderbolt cable. One cable to rule them all!

Target price for home and grading suite is $10K.

Fantastic news!!!!
Any rough idea yet in which quarter we could expect the product to ship?
We are just building a new grading suite and will have two different projection sizes, roughly 3m wide by 1.8m high and another one being up to 7.5m wide and 2.9m high.
Will the projector be able to fill both with enough light?
Or what is the expected "maximum" you can go?

The point is: We are actually building the rooms, so we can adjust everythin NOW, but once the architectural stuff is fixed, changes will be hard. I want to make the best solution possible, so making the screen the right size is mandantory for us.

Any hints welcome, if not publicly maybe PM for non-disclosure?

Cheers,
Axel

Am I the only one that found that line very funny? [Especially coming from a very smart precise and naturally (time) coordinated German].

I love RED…

We have worked with similar screen sizes, smidge larger using pretty old digital projection equipment (on silver screen) for s-3d apps for many years (now).

It would HAVE to accommodate those screen sizes to be any good… but may depend on how dark or light tight your suite/space would be?

I would be amazed if the 10K laser offering could not accomplish what you want.

Cheers, and best regards...

Eric

p.s. Whatever quarter it comes out the world is not going to be the same after that.

As a total outsider to the industry, I can say I've been watching the Red Projector news with baited breath, hoping it would be announced soon. At 10k, it will very much be a part of my home theater, and I can't wait to see it in action. Almost worth buying a ticket to Vegas to see it in action.

I’m the exact same. I’m not in the industry…. But I’m fascinated by the capabilities of the tech that Red produces.
I’m also on this forum because I’m watching the info on the projector like a hawk. I literally had a meeting this morning with a guy who is clearing the lot for a new house I’m building, and I’m planning on an 8-foot or 12-foot screen in the den.
I’ve got the same projector questions everyone else has (noise level, cabling, any chance of image burn-in problems, etc.,) but if it is as good as people are saying, I’ll buy one for $10k. That’s a steal compared to the $24k Sony VPL-VW1000ES, which also has the crappy active shutter glasses.

Will this Epic firmware update fix the problems with the LCD 5" screens not working properly, or is that still a way off?

Also, will this update enable phantom power on the Epic?

My touch screen works like a dream, perhaps it's a finger problem!

Just for the touch screen.. It works much better if you use your thumb pointing down when you touch the top menus. Give it a try.

The problem with the RED touch screen is that the software doesn't seem to adjust for parallax. The location should be interpreted higher than the center of the actual touch.
Every iPhone or iPad does this kind of adjustment. That's why it's almost impossible to hit something on such a device if it's held upside down (screen not rotated of course).

RED, are you listening? :ihih:

3D needs another push. Bring on Red Ray and Laser projection. Time to see what a real 3d projection system can do. No more dark 3d please.

RedRay and Laser Projector - delivery and display sorted!

Try Nook Kim's suggestion. I did and it works perfectly.
