  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Meet Schika....

Really nice shoot! Scary! :cheers2:

Sorry, but, it's only me or there is something strange in the teeth and tongue? Maybe the jpeg compression?
I saw the same thing at first. I was viewing the picture on an LCD monitor connected via D-sub 15. The analog low pass made the teeth and tongue look weird.

Now I'm viewing on another LCD monitor with a DVI connection and it looks much better and more natural.

(I think it's the saliva that makes it look kind of unnatural.)

EDIT: I bitched about the peacock picture last time because of compression artifacts in the dark areas. I think it's only fair that I give credit where it's due. This picture looks amazing and I don't think the grade is too aggressive at all. What REDCODE setting was this shot with? This is by far the best Epic example in recent memory.

Jarred, I notice you guys are using a lot of Canon glass. I like that!

Do you think that with all the new advancements in focus assistance that you guys are adding to Epic (touch-screen focus, Redmote focus?) that people will be able to use stock Canon glass for most shooting, or would you think that the rehousing of Canon and Nikon glass will continue apace? I have not been following all the developments with focus, so hopefully this isn't too much of a noob question, but for example, are you able to use something like a Redmote to focus the Canon lens electronically, but calibrate it so the focus puller has a longer focus "throw" on his knob/dial?

We are shooters as well remember (both still and motion) and we like to have options. There is some great Canon and Nikon glass out there. Just remember that most of the still lenses were not designed for motion so you can get some breathing and some other characteristics that glass designed specifically for motion cinema correct for.

Ah, that's true. No matter how much the new focus-assist systems might help for increasing the focus throw or making it easier to focus, they won't help with breathing.

Then again... you guys could get lens profiles for every Canon lens and add "breathing compensation" tied to the focus motors and lens data... HAHAHAHHAA... just kidding... just kidding..!

Put Schika in tactical gear and have her head-up security at the next convention. :yikes:

I'm a bit confused about the lower part of this epic image...

As far as the "lines-tag" is concerned, I can not recognize them now on an Apple cinema display, but did so on my 2010 Macbookpro non glare display.

you have confused me as well.. so you see lines on your laptop screen but not your normal monitor.. so whats the point here?

This looks so stunningly sharp, if I hadn't been told otherwise, I would have thought this was a stuffed animal at a museum that i would be able to get inches away from to examine.

It's probably because your MacBook Pro display is only a 6 bit display whereas your Cinema Display is 8bit.

Apple don't do true 8bit let alone 10bit displays on their laptops.

this helps here too, it looks different on a CRT than my big LCD.. much better.. but little posterization is still present.. mostly the part in the lower jaw middle teeth..
