  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Meet Charlie..

Maybe I missed this by quickly browsing this thread, but was this image acquired from EPIC's still mode or extracted from a clip?

And once again, outstanding work!

Ooooh pretty bird !

I'm still wondering exactly what the difference is between Still/Motion. Being as RED is using the philosophy of shooting REDCODE RAW progressive frames either at a faster pace to make literal motion pictures, or just individual frames.

I want to say the difference will be a few options in the menu to integrate additional accessories such as a strobe light to get the "flash" in photography.

Other than that, I don't expect much difference...but hey, what do I know?

My guess is that stills mode will just enable the kind of shutter speeds you wouldn't want to use with motion, modes like aperture priority and other automated functions that are only really suited to stills.
You'll probably get the opportunity to set single frame file recording but also a push button burst video mode. i.e. push the shutter button and it records an R3D video stream for as long as you hold it down- then you go into the R3d and pull out the best frames.

Christian :I imagine the file extension is going to keep to the 3 character standard.

My question is with R3D already taken what will the dual stream 5k stereoscopic 3D in a single file format be called? Presumably Red are planning one right? (plug to brains into a single recording module with SSD and reduce file management headaches in post by having the stereo pair for each shot recorded into a single file)

BTW. Love the sample and the pic of the working prototype on set Jarred. :drool5:

Thanks for posting. Every time I see something like this it tests my skills of staying focused on my work in the moment in the face of overwhelming excitement for the future. I am getting better... I think.

Dammit,

I'm not getting better at it. I just read through this entire thread and then posted on it!

Any chance of a close up of the camera? :)

Now where is the bird in that photo?

In stills mode, can the file captured be used as a RAW image in Aperture or Lightroom? In other words, will there be a RAW profile for RED cameras?

I also wonder if it will be possible to save a RAW still from motion mode to use in Aperture or Lightroom?

Hey never claimed to be a retoucher, just getting a clearer shot of the camera without the surroundings, feel free to show us the better way.

It was a joke. "Zoom in and enhance," resulting in image detail being created out of nothing as if by magic, from something like a VHS security tape, is something they say a lot on these forensic shows like CSI. It's a huge pet peeve of many photographers.

haha yeah that always bugs me.

"no no, its like its rescanning the image and filling in the blanks with science and computers... trust me its real"

Now maybe with the new build of Redcine-X. I'm always amazed how Red seems to always seems to get at least a little bit more. The power of Raw.

Jarred,

I see a top handle mount on the Epic. So glad to know
that I can swap my R1 production package with my Epic.
Obsolescence be gone! :seeya:
