  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

May Update... The month of Raven

The response I got from my rep was enough to convince me that Red has a culture of caring about their customers, but part of what I'm discovering is that Brent and Jarred also care about their employees. Having worked for several companies who very clearly did not care about their employees, that matters to me also. It affects the way that they treat their customers, in a positive way.

Just an idea...

Just an idea...

Perhaps RedUser can play a role in helping out those who aren't going to get allocated in time for key projects. My suggestion is a RedUser thread to help people hook up barter deals.

The basic concept is trading a day of use for a day of use, no cash - but do get those COIs! Let's say RedUser "A" has already received their DSMC2 camera but their next project is still a month away. RU "B" is still waiting for allocation, but the scheduling of an important (or at least lucrative) project is very soon and not changeable. "B" uses "A's" camera for a week and now owes "A" two weeks of camera usage. "A" gets double booked in July (or wants a b-cam for their project, etc) and is able to use "B's" camera to cover. Each owner invoices and collects from their respective clients.

I suggest RedUser as the clearinghouse for these barter deals as it can facilitate finding partners who's schedules line up and, with any luck, are located nearby.

The loaner camera offer from Jarred, Brent and the RedTeam is exceptional - but it doesn't cover everyone's situation and shipping to far flung locales is problematic. He ain't heavy...

Man that's dope, upgrading S-W to Weapon for free? Who does that?

Jarred/Brent - at this point I'm just way too in need of my Red to come in as I've got projects booked that are going to need a camera - I'd take an Epic Dragon if they are around! S-W time stamp Jan 11, Raven to S-W switcher. Help a brother out - these gigs are basically going to pay off my S-W, or potentially lose that amount of cash! Obviously everyone here is smiling at the chance of a free upgrade, and that's cool but in reality I just need to have my camera here in time to avoid missing out on serious cash, don't need the MG just S-W or equivalent by 3rd week of May.

Alessandro,

I understand where you're coming from. I lost out on a number of jobs because of the delays, I would have loved to have gotten a substantial kit fee by bringing my camera on when Dean Cundey ASC wanted a high-speed C camera for this past feature. This experience has taught me the hard way that I shouldnt plan something contingent on anything out of my own control. I know for a fact that every person at Red is working well beyond civilized hours to not only deliever a superbly designed camera, but a device that is manufactured to precision. Every person from the top to the bottom is working their hardest to ensure you take delivery of your camera as soon as possible, and they have made themselves available in an unprecendednted way to establish a dialogue with their customers while they wait. People are going to look back on this thread a year from now, when the DSMC2 line has proliferated enough to become the industry standard around the world, and they are going to wonder why everyone was acting like chickens with their heads cut off. That's just my humble opinion, you know the position you're in much better than I do.

Best,
Krishan

I've been doing this on and off for the past couple months with DSMC1 bodies locally, unfortunately it didn't always work for me because of the limited number of dragons in the Indiana area but it's a great idea!

I'm a Dec 10th Scarlet-W preorder. Can I transfer my loaner eligibility to Alessandro? As long as he doesn't get my timestamp for fulfillment ;)

Somewhat of a moot point as I stated the EPIC DRAGONs we had on hand to support this were first come, first serve. And we are tapped out right now, so until the people who needed them for projects now start to cycle them back, our hands are somewhat tied for additional requests.

I know we are all eager to get our hands on the shiny new things from the RED factory, but jeeze, its just a camera! Rent an Epic or something if you have a project on the horizon.
Some people on here make it sound like they have absolutely no other camera option available to them, which is just false on every single level.
I promise, your entire world will not collapse if you don't get your DSMC2 camera in time for your upcoming shoot. You will shoot it with something else that will look just as good and life will go on.
Quite a few REDheads on here need to push away from the keyboard for a few days and unplug. For your mental health and everyone elses.

Hi Brent,

Do you have any news about the loaners kits destined to REDEUROPE ? I have contacted my Bomb squad the first day of the amazing announcement of the loaners kits for Scarlet-W orders but he said that he's waiting instruction from RED USA, and now he's out of the office until 17.05.2016.

Best regards,

Malik.

Very different when you are talking about putting the $20k camera you just bought on the job @ $500/day for 20 days. Easy to talk when you don't have skin in the game or can hold off and sound sweet to convince jarred to give you an mg but for those of us who don't want hand outs and who just want to make our own money with the tools we paid for shit is different...

You're right. It is just a camera... until it's YOUR camera. Then everything changes.

This whole situation is a perfect lesson on budgeting our shoots better. I learned long time ago to quote my clients separate for gear and my time.

I have asked our loaner team and REL to sync up again so you are getting proper information.

May I please have the upgrade Jarred! I didn't say anything at all i was being patient.

I have my $20k already fully paid as well, and won't see my camera for months yet. But I still have cameras to work with as I am sure most everyone ranting here does as well. So it's a littttttle dramatic, thats all. And I know this is now sounding like a broken record but if people here have booked worked, based off having a brand new camera that has barely hit the market yet, well that's their own fault really, not Brent, not Jarred or anyone else at RED, just themselves. Actually, Let's remember a few words from the brilliant Jim Jannard....

"Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..."
-Jim Jannard-

With how put off you were by my post, I am guessing your in a tight financial situation perhaps? So I do hope you get your camera soon to alleviate that stress.
To your other points, by no means am I trying to kiss Jarred's ass either. But the constant whining, "Brent, what about me? what about my timestamp? Where's my Camera?" is now 40 pages deep, and some "professionals" in here are starting to sound like children in Toys'r'Us at Christmas.

getting a free upgrade to weapon is a lot of pressure, you guys who got it better shoot some cool shit!!!
I'm so happy with the Raven so far, it's basically my favorite thing.
it will be on a good size production starting next week working along side of a weapon, so ill make sure i get pics for you all of "Ravey" in the thick of it.
(oh that's her name now)
