  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

May Product Delivery Update

With a little tiny bit of hackery this should be doable ASAP with PFTrack which lets you give it a "hint" animation track. Just load it up in Nuke and spit out a CSV file with the orientation.
So is this gyro data going to assist PFTrack with the solve being more accurate? Saving some manual labor and correction on tough solves? I've done my share of matchmoving shots but as far as bringing in on-set data from a camera I'm very curious to find what the future can hold

That is an excellent update list we have there!

I'm guessing Power management is up next Jarred?

And i'm digging the Post record fan delay, Phantom power, side handle key lock, and the audio limiter control!

hanks for listening to everyones requests, that's one of the better features about this company.

Power Management has been moved way up the list after you guys all the feedback during NAB

When you are out there working with the camera you can never get the upgrades fast enough but I am very impressed with the reaction to user feedback. Job Well done!

Jarred, I'd kill for this firmware before 6am eastern wednesday. I have a shoot coming up where I'd kill for 3KHD and 2KHD  mixing and matching 4k/3k/2k for 16:9 delivery... Would be nice if I didn't have to crop in post. That is if it'll play nice with premiere and Resolve without those needing updates...

Thank you for listening on power management. And for it being free. As always

Hey, thats good enough for me!

Some one asked about the button mic (its a page or two back in this thread) you guys had in the works a long time ago.
I second that question... any news on that when/if it will be made?

Its a shame, I was in LA on Friday and Saturday and came into the store but i wanted to take advantage of you guy's offer to see 4K footage on a 40' screen but i think i thought of it too late.

*Added Slate Information Dialog - as in maybe a touch keyboard to enter notes... that would be nice (snip)
*Target REDCode feature - if I understand that correctly - that's a great idea (snip)

Slate information dialog... that sounds interesting...

I sure hope the "target REDcode" feature solves the often frustrating situation where you set up an over crank, hit record at the perfect time, only to end up missing the critical moment because the camera is asking you to approve a higher compression ratio. if I am misunderstanding, then allow me to request that the default whenever the selected compression ratio is unavailable is to have the camera roll at the least compression possible for the selected rez/fps.

Hope it doesn't sound like nitpicking, there are some terrific new features on the list. Thanks RedTeam.

Cheers - #19

Jarred-At NAB you mentioned a fix for the audio ticking that happens (that can be fixed by taping the lens mount points) when a shotgun is plugged in directly sans mixer. Has this been fixed in the firmware that is going to be released this week?

Thanks.

Kevin

Here you go. Glad to see this improvement, I've gotten bit by it a few times already...

* Added Phantom Power Support(Hardware Rev Dependent)

So, for the phantom power and hardware revision, does that mean some cameras will need to go back in to get it fixed/enabled? Or will future firmware builds enable it for all cameras?
It just got me wondering....

New build features look awesome. I'm stoked about the gyro data. I've been dabbling here with some virtual set stuff, we have a PlayStation3 Move controller mounted to the camera and can interface it natively with a few apps, primarily using Lightwave 11 for 3D environments at the moment. Is there a chance that the data could eventually be transmitted or delivered some other way while recording? As cool as the Move controller is, it still feels like a kludge solution.

Will we be able to get at this motion data in the R3D files with the current SDK metadata queries or will we need to wait for the next SDK update?

Terrific set of improvements with this pending build. Thanks for the info, Jared. I'm especially thankful for the phantom power enabling, though I'm also quite curious about what Jeff asked regarding "hardware rev dependent". I'm not sure if "rev" means "revision" or "review" but, in any case, am hoping this doesn't involve sending my camera in. Will do it, though, if that's what it takes to use my condenser mics.:-)

Also quite glad to see power management moving up the list. Hope you guys also are looking into the issues many have experienced with fan noise in quiet rooms for long takes.

Jarred (and RED Team),

Thank you SO much for all of your hard work in adding these improvements!
What a great list of advancements to the firmware!

One thing I'd love to see with this awesome list is a more detailed description of what the changes are and how to operate them. Can this be addressed?

Thanks again!

~ Casey
