Marvel's Daredevil - Shot on Dragon

Any more info on what lenses and OLPF was used to shoot the series?

Looks great. Congrats Phil.

Heh. I wasn't truly involved with the production itself, but I did see the cameras off before they filmed to make sure they were prepared for "Hell's Kitchen".

The series was shot on Master Primes and a few specialty optics from Panavision NY.

Just watched the first four episodes on Netflix. Astonishing show - even better than I expected. Looks like nothing I've seen before. Congrats all around!

Finally a Frank Milleresque style . Hope they introduce a gritty love story with Elektra at some point.

Watched 6 episodes as of now and it's really freakin good. It's dark and well performed, not the cheesy type of marvel story like I felt Arrow was. It's also one of the best looking shows I've seen, extremely well lit.
The only thing that bothers me is that the noise is distracting sometimes. It doesn't have to be clean, but in some instances the noise is so "colorful" it just feels ugly. I'm not sure at what ISO rating they shot it, but it seems they wanted a half-practical/half-lit night scenes with the NY vistas in the background.

It also have one of the best looking fight scenes among TV and movies. I really like the one shot (or trick-one-shot like Birdman) fightscene when he rescues the boy. Felt like the track shot fight scene in the original Korean Old Boy. But the main thing is that it's in wide shots, showing the performance, not some randomly put together handheld shots that makes no sense whatsoever. Here it's wide, you see everything and it's raw.

Among the enormous amount of super hero storys put to screen, this ranks among the best, even compared to movies.

Seriously, this show is killer. Totally squashed my low expectations. So beautifully shot too!

We binge watched a bunch of eps last night. Is this the best super hero show on TV?Looks AMAZING. Wow - Dragon rocks! And I agree...so well shot and lit.

And yes - that one continuous fight scene in hallway to rescue kid is INCREDIBLE!! I love how he gets tired...and picks himself back up to beat up MORE baddies!

So good!

Looking forward to watch that show. It's one of the reasons why i will subscribe to NF as soon as i have a 4k-TV. ;)
Did they master this one in HDR already? I know they did it with Marco Polo.

And for that matter does anyone know how that HDR-mastering is done?

They made very bold lighting choices in the show, particularly for strong colored gels on backgrounds. Note that colorist Tony D'Amore is doing the final color over at Encore/Hollywood -- it's a very striking looking show, definitely pushing the envelope. It's actually very faithful to the comic book, though the Daredevil I remember from the 1960s didn't throw villains off rooftops (ala The Dark Knight).

Great show... pretty images.

Great show, great writing, directing and performances. Probably even the best take on a Marvel character so far.

Lovely dark cinematography. Would love to watch it in 4K on a big screen.

A this was just the start. 3 more super-hero shows (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist) are coming and all 4 of them will be united in the multi-part event-show "The Defenders". After Daredevil i have high hopes.

They sure add a lot of grain and saturation, and use a strong yellow-orange/green colour palette (not a complaint; just an observation).

I think the continuous take, fighting in bursts, style is really great. It looks really difficult.

Also is Foggy the dude from Mighty Ducks?

Lot of hard yellow lighting on set. It's an unusual choice, but I have to say it's one of the most unusual-looking shows on TV.

Elden Henson is indeed the kid from The Mighty Ducks. Very good actor -- what he does looks easy, but he's doing a terrific job at a thankless part. Very, very close to what I remember in the comic book. I'm now five episodes in and I'm still a little in shock at the violence in the show. The villain smashes a guy's head in with a car door, slamming it about 29 times until it detaches? Yikes... this is definitely not ABC.

IMO, The look of the show is some of the highest praise for the Dragon sensor I've seen so far! Great work, Matthew Lloyd and team!

nice!!
