I've been told that there's an in camera option to mark favorite frames for editing notes later - can this be done while shooting? Or only when viewing already recorded clips? I haven't found any documentation around this, can someone help me if this is possible?

MENU > SETTINGS > SETUP > KEYS

click any button on camera to which you want to assign the Mark frame action to... (or choose a soft key)
scroll to (or search for) : Record: Mark Frame

Press the key at will while recording and it will tag those frame in the R3D. Can then review the tagged frames in Playback mode and in RCX... :-)

Thanks!!

can you mark it during playback or only during recording?

Do you know if the frame markers show up in Premiere?

just asking this again, curious….

only while recording (at least for now)

For obvious reasons, the camera will not modify the original R3D file post recording so until the camera can create a .RMD sidecar file internally to store those markers or other metadata it will not possible to add them during playback...

got it, thank you!

somewhat related feature request. I want to start an .R3d file that records (burst & single) frames. So that after i start a .r3d file anytime i press the record key it would write frames into the single file. This would be a great way to organize shoots. On Photogrammetry batches I often have over 80-150 pics and to have all of those images in one file would be awesome.

This is possible with current FW :

Go to menu > setup > Keys > Key mapping and assign 'RECORD : MARK FRAME' to a button or soft key.

Then in menu > settings > recording choose Mode : 'Frame trigger' and 0 frames for desired PRE and POST frames (adjust if needed for burst recordings)

Hit record button to start a new file (it will also create the first single frame). Then hit the Mark frame button anytime you want to save a new still. At the end hit record button again to end the R3D file.
