  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Manufacturing Redefined...

0:49.

They were doing just fine until we called a team meeting. :-)

This team can assemble a camera in 13 minutes consistently.

Jim

Tidbits from the late night meeting:

Jim: Where did we start with EPIC?
it used to take us 2 hours...
Jim: And we are now at - This team can assemble a camera in 13 minutes consistently.
Jim: I'm must say I'm immensely proud with the whole assembly team, this is a great achievement.
Jim: That said, I would need you to push the limits for Scarlet and do it in 10 minutes.
Assembly Team: We shall push it down to 9.

Any similarity of this story to real life is purely intentional :-)

I can't believe how cool this is. I always think of you guys as a rag-tag band of misfits... it's so awesome to see the army you've built behind the scenes. :)

I think that the next step has to be to truly cosy up the place: Jarred, you said custom made jackets for the employees, that's an excellent idea. Building your own "philosophy" comes from the inside, from every employee. It should make them proud to be where they are!

I really like what you guys are doing. Keep it up. Red can be, in this bland, cold corporate world, what independent film is to template blockbuster moviemaking. Something passionate, something that can truly excel beyond the crowd. We needed this!

Yes, a tour you can win like in the Willy Wonka tale! You open your Epic/Scarlet case, and there's the golden ticket!

Don't worry.. Red ESD jackets are coming. It seems Just like everything else that we do, we had to get them custom made. I guess RED just isn't normal ;)

Actually I kinda like the blue. More clinical, more sci-fi like. It's clean. Maybe just some red logos.

What does a Danielle Steel novel do on the desk in the busy assembly room? :-) The guys have a marathon and don't go home, so in their spare-time they can read?

I was going to say the same thing, except this guy should be reprimanded first for reading a DS novel, second for thinking he has time to read. Jarred, hell the poor guy out, get him some tom Clancy or something, of Jim's life story the Power of One... that was about jim was it? or was it Peekay?

LOVE that book and movie. Love all the books by Bryce. He's not well known at all in the States. Wish he was mentioned more.

I’m a real sucker for chips, the metal kind (rather than silicon or fried).

Would one day love to see your 5-axis machines in action on the M and cnc Mill-turn on the titanium mount. Love to see those chips fly.

It brings it home that RED has NO FEAR (he, he)!!!

The other thing that’s really impressive is that the EPIC is absolutely stuffed to the brim with very cleverly designed and shaped boards. There is literally not a single mm (cubed) to spare. The camera has lot of “Guts” like RED (of course). I love the fact that the cooling system has been given substantial priority and yet the demand and need to keep it within the desired form factor has been maintained. You can see that an incredible will was brought to bear to meet all of those requirements WITHOUT excuses or compromise. The number and shape and complexity of all the boards tells you this. If it was any other camera company it would be 4 times the size.

It reminds me of the early days of the space industry. So cool to see all of this really happening.

Go get’em

Eric

would the soundtrack for these images be Springsteen's "Born in the USA"?

I think you should buy the best camera you can... then smile when you realize that for the 1st time in 100 years, the best camera you can buy is made in the USA.

Jim

Surprised no one asked, or attempted to answer. So Jim, what 100 year-old camera were you thinking of when you said that?

The other thing I like about RED is, its products are right in line with a US design and engineering tradition. They are in the same lineage as Mack trucks, the Chrysler building and the '65 Mustang. Especially the last - big engine in a little body, priced for the masses rather than the elite. VRRROOOMMM. Smell the rubber on those bias-ply Firestones burning, and feel free to add to the list.

Note: I'm not one of those people who chants USA ... while watching the Olympics or World Cup. I simply like to see competition among the best. But I do recognize that there are national traditions and a national character (even in the most diverse nation in history). It's great to see that character alive and well, directed toward making tools for communication and art - not for war.

I am so speechless! AMAZING!
