  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MALCOLM MCDOWELL attached to my feature film - thanks RED team!

Congratulations, Meryem! That's welcome news for your production, I'm sure. Do you think we could get something of a progress log of your experiences with EPIC?

when I have some experiences, sure!

if our Colorado EPIC cameras aren't delivered by May, we will be shooting MXed RED ONES...happily, I might add - it is a remarkable camera system.

but fingers crossed!

and hey, Erik - thanks, perhaps we'll cross paths soon...

I just signed Dean Cain to the project as well - the once and future Superman is coming to Boulder to join the MIND'S EYE cast.

Dean Cain and Malcolm Mcdowell should provide an interesting 1-2 punch for the film...

That's great news man! I'm not at all a follower of stars...but Malcolm transcends that for sure. All the best in production.
Cheers

Thanks, redusers - it's nice to have you guys' support - this is a big step for my company. And for our little state, I hope, which is not exactly a mecca for feature film...

...though it should be. We have the most under-photographed, beautiful locations in the world. And we have awesome crew - we just need some interesting characters to shoot.

And I plan to make the most of them, Christian -

since I come to this originally from the nature shooter's side of things -

we have some killer locations planned...

the mountains near my home are going to be like a character in the film, a gothic presence that overshadows all the action.

the details are killing me, paperwork paperwork paperwork, but when I imagine the footage and the actors, and looking at Malcolm Mcdowell through the lens (I am totally shooting the 2nd cam for at least one of those set days, if it kills me...), then I get madly excited...

Meryem, I was in Boulder about 10 years ago shooting wildlife and scenery. Chautauqua and Boulder Mountain Parks are beautiful places. Hope you have the time to include in your film some time-lapse...the Flatirons are screaming for someone doing time-lapse and aerial cinematography!

Yeah I know what you mean...paperwork is a killer, but when everything is done you won't even remember the pain.

I'll be shooting quite a bit of timelapse for this film, actually...the main characters are experiencing strange time-space ruptures, so I'll be using a lot of timelapse transitions throughout. We'll be messing with time quite a bit throughout the film, in hopefully interesting ways.

We may even throw in a self-referential KOYAANISQATSI moment, as an homage. Since I have a background in teaching film, there's a lot of little references and homages to other films and filmmakers sprinkled throughout - some people will get them, some won't, but the film stands alone either way.

The Chautauqua is about 4 blocks from my home. We're going to try to use one location there, but it is the more beautiful but lesser known locations which I hope to bring into the film. So much to shoot here that is wonderful.

Colorado is a shooter's playground, and since I'm a shooter more than a producer, most of the time, the production is very location-centric and (I hope) inherently visually interesting.

The best thing about producing is bringing the vision to life. The worst thing about producing is that it sucks time away from shooting. That part annoys me.

I worked on a film with Malcolm was actually the same film Tom Gleeson DP'd. Malcolm was very resourceful in his performance to better a dificult scene shot in a difficult location.
Good luck and hope it works out well for you.

That is wonderful Meryem!!! I wish to live in Colorado instead Mass and have the chance to be part of the film...
Do you will put updates here on Reduser?

I'll see, Christian - once production starts, it is always hard to find time - or energy - it all flows towards the production, and this one has lots of moving parts - but after we wrap, I will be able to post stills, since I'll be the sole owner...

actually, it will be nice, for once, not to be sitting, on a big pile of great footage that doesn't belong to me and doesn't have an NDA attached to it.
