  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Blackmagic UltraScope

Fredrik, are you at NAB?
I would love to hear from the BMD people whether or not this uses the CPU or if it's a true hardware scope...

No sorry, realized it might seem like that. I saw it on the website as well. This is a good price point though, but it seems to be to good to be true.

Nothing against Leader but I was really not psyched to spend $6K for a 5700. The OmniTeks are great but with some necessary add ons its a $10K hit. This is an overdue product innovation, props to BlackMagic if this thing is as good as it looks. Let's hope it really is shipping in June, I need it now.

We have been holding out on a proper scope for our SCRATCH system. I guess you have too, Blair? Been testing ScopeBox but it uses the CPU of the host workstation (Mac only) and needs a beefy system to run properly so even if it's not 10K it quickly adds up...

I think run on windows too: http://decklink.com/products/ultrascope/techspecs/

anyway a more or less precise waweform/histogram 10 bits for 700$ is amazing, will test for sure.

...or will wait what Mr. Kaku Ito said about in creativecow or here. (he test accurately BM)

oops! I translate this with google.. what is this link??

What is that link, Vico?

I'm going to buy the UltraScope for sure. It seems only works with PC, so I'm going to set it up with smallest PC possible I think.
As much feature film work that I'm getting, it's about time to get the proper scope.

Spoke to the guys yesterday (in Melbourne, not Vegas) It's a standalone device that needs it's own CPU. This is why they've gone Windows only because the cost of throwing a MacPro at it is stupid when you can put it in any old PC. So you have a dedicated PC running this card and software with SDI looped through.

I wonder if it will work with Parallels or Crossover, I hope they are thinking of OSX also

Luke said if you want a Mac version, hassle them on the Cow and, given the numbers, they'll port it. They're very Mac friendly - no danger of PC-centricity from BMD, they're just trying to save us money.

I think Bettsy answered that question

Hi,
Will this be good for CC for film with Scratch???
Thks

And to add to that, my idea would be to dig up a nice 1U rack server with a PCI-e riser and that have a neat 1U rackmounted Scope.

How about Mac Book Pro + Magma Express card 34/PCIe expansion + Ultrascope? If that works that would be appealing.
Also, BMD might think buying new Mac Pro for Ultra Scope is wasting, but people with older Mac Pro might use the older one for Ultra Scope and buy new Mac Pro for NLE use.

Anyhow, I'm thinking something like this for my Ultra Scope.
