  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Major_problem_build_20.1.3!!!

I for one have had the problem and will be testing today to assess which of my drives and cables is suspect. I understand what Red have done with the firmware and appreciate it very much. They haven't made a problem, they've simply written the code to correctly identify one that pre-existed. Until the current build none of us with iffy hardware was aware of it. Now we can get it fixed. And if, like me, it started cropping up on a shoot, at least you knew it was happening and could call for another take - same as if you'd missed focus or your mobile rang or the actor kicked the tripod (which sort of got me off the hook for the phone thing:tongue_smilie:)

Stuart, Brent, PM sent. The show I was renting to reported the problem. Lets talk as to when I can come down and give you drives, cables, ect...Thanks.

I just want to reiterate:
Anyone who needs help getting their drives and cables into RED after experiencing this please don't hesitate to contact me directly or just fill out a support ticket on the website and we will do our best to take care of this ASAP for you.

Just plug the drive to my camera.
The camera doesnt start... is DEAD!

Any sugestion?

...just covering up the error isn't going to fix your hardware, it needs to go back to Red.

It seems to be an isolated issue, but since 100% of people with the issue have chimed up, it makes it look widespread.

My gear is very new, and have been treated extremely good. This error came out of the blue with no indication before.

This is not a small inconvenience. Because the error comes just after few seconds and stops the recording it's making the camera 100% not operational. For me this happened for the first time during a shoot and a big crew, one time event and pissing of the director thoroughly.

I don't mean to cover up the error, just make a life line to finish the shot in some way. The chance of catastrophic error and reboot increases but you still can save the shot and come home and file a support ticket later.

Sure, the argument is to replace the drive, cable and body, but in some cases you only get ONE chance to shoot some event.

FedEx will come by later today with my cable and drive and I will do a new test.

Hello,
I have got back my drives now. Looks like my dear old drives, but the lemos seems new. Done some long testing of both drives and everything is working PERFECT!!! No problem what so ever. Thank you for amazing good support!

If anyone else is reading this thread, and have got a SATA error, this is my recommendation:
1) Make support ticket at http://www.red.com/support
2) Wait for RMA and instructions.
3) Fill out ALL custom paper ACCURATE, and also in some couturiers, request a temporary export permit so you don't need to pay fees when equipment is returned.
4)Pack gear good, and arrange FedEx pickup.

If you are on a shoot, and get this problem. Try change drive cable, if you can switch to flash card. If you need long take, and can not change RED-DRIVE/camera body. Re-flash with build without sata-error detection. (17 or 20.0.0)

Best:hurray:

Thanks, JJ, for your patience and it is good to hear when the recommended trouble shooting steps are taken - it does have positive results.

My camera and drive were shipped with build 20 last week. Have taken a ticket

We started having the sata trans fault error regularly with red-ram since we upgraded to Build 20 . We tried out the new firmware build 21 and haven't experienced any problems with the red-ram yet. We are waiting for the official release to start using red-ram again on commercial projects.

They removed the error message during record in Beta Build 21. So I would still file a support ticket with RED and let them fix your equipment. You never know when it's gonna fail on you.

Just back from a music concert shoot in Nairobi. Two cameras, both identical and upgraded. Red Drives and Red Bricks. The one closest to the speakers got repeatedly SATA-errors. My theory is that the powerful sound waves has something to do in this. We now have a major problem with the project. It cannot be re shooted...

Hi,

You need to record to CF in such situations, quite a few threads in the past.
