  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Major_problem_build_20.1.3!!!

We started having this problem today and I think I have nailed to down to certain drives in the kit like certain cables. I have one drive A that works great with cable A. Drive B with cable A error over and over. Drive B with cable B works much better. Almost flawless. Also the drive would not format so I formatted it in disk utility then formated it back on the camera. Works great now with Drive B and cable B. All cables have the red mold on the connectors. Camera and drives all ordered and received 1yr ago.

RED-DRIVE and SATA error

RED-DRIVE and SATA error

Precisely, the symptom at first appears to be random (but it isn't)

Which is why if you are having this issue we want you to contact RED tech support.

As I posted earlier, we experienced two of these errors out of many shots,

shooting 2K at 72 fps.

Should we be contacting Red for an issue we can't replicate?

Can you share with us what the corrective procedure is?

Thank you,

Leo

Hi Stuart have now had this problem on two of our drives I will email you the log files.

I send a Help mail for Red Support to fix this problem and four days after NOTHING HAPPEN. Strange.
I need the camera rolling in 20 days time and i got this SATA ERROR cancel some shots.

No info yet, but fedex-ing from where I live take many days. I think red got my drive cable just today.

My 2 cents:

We shot for 15 hrs a week ago, on release build 20 and using two Red RAMs.

No problems.

Luis, you sent an email three days ago. You were assigned support ticket #42224. We received it a little after 8am our time and Sean replied a little after 12pm, our time. I will forward back his reply to you.

Everyone, we try to reply back within four hours of receiving a support ticket. Safe bet is if you have not heard back from us within a half day, the email reply got caught in your junk folder or something. Please check there. If nothing, PM me. I will pull up your ticket like I am doing for Luis and forward it to you.

Also - Add the red.com domain to your whitelist.

We don't ignore anyone, I promise.

Thanks Brent

Sorry for the heat but my clock is ticking! :)

JJ,

You only sent the cable? Ouch. We thought my problem was cables, but my cables were fine and they needed to replace something in both my Red drives.

If you have this problem, I would sent in both drives and cables just to be safe. Unless Red says otherwise.

This morning I got the Body Hot warning just a minute after turning on the camera. Never had a 'Body Hot' issue in pre 20 Builds (under any condition). Back to Build 18.

100% correct. If as a result of SATA_error we ask you to send anything in for inspection, it will be both cable and drive.

Same here. I've sent my support ticket. Just got 2 new cables in the mail (my old ones disappeared), now getting SATA fault and having drive difficulties. Never had any problems with my drives prior. I'm on the latest build.

Varispeed and shutter

Varispeed and shutter

I have little old problem with setting shutter in varispeed mode:
1. Set project to 2K 2:1 (25fps timeline)
2. Set ramerate to 120fps
3. Turn Varispeed ON
4. Increase shutter speed - picture becomes darker - it's OK
5. If I then decrease shutter speed, picture is NOT CHANGING to lighter

Varispeed troubles....

Varispeed troubles....

Sata_Trans ..... yeah.... makes me say grrrrrr...... While going through our drives and cables to see if any more where giving us the wonderful message, I figured I would try a few records with different varispeed settings. I came across something I thought was rather interesting.

Settings:
Project = 2k2:1 / 23.98 / redcode28
Varispeed = checked both 'varispeed' and 'ramp' / frame rate 1fps / duration 30 seconds / end rate 120fps

Set first to ' on event ' however majority of the time would shoot right from 1 to 24fps maybe a second after I pushed record and wouldn't budge from there (even when 'ramp' user button was pushed), so I changed it to ' on record'.... frame rate would go from 1 to +/-34 fps instantly nothing in between, then it would start increasing from 34.....but then jump back down to +/- 5 fps. Changing the rates around a bit I found even 110fps ramped to 120fps would produce an effect like this, some of the rates I tried...

3-59 good
3-120 bad
20-120 bad
63-120 bad
1-50 bad
1-40 good

All the other RED one's my company owns are out on jobs so I can't test to see if this is just this one camera....Anyone else have this issue?? Or is this just a fluke??

Just had a shoot in Florida where this SATA problem reared it's ugly head.

Rented locally and the camera had 20 on it, I've only shot up to build 17 before, and I've had three cameras rolling for an hour at a time with nary a hiccup.

This time, 3 SATA failures resulting in lost footage on a documentary style interview with 15-20 minute takes.

Red - Is this a problem I should expect on any build 20 camera?

I have a Red shoot in New york in a week and I'm thinking I should ask the renter to re install build 17...
