  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Major Announcement- July 6th

Modular stills cam. Choose 24mp MFT, 36mp S35, or 50mp FF. Choose your mount and display res. Wifi and cellular capable. Size of a Blackmagic Pocket. Software on-board.

Did Jim or Jarred confirm this will be a "RED" product?

Jarred said it would be in a new product category, but he didn't specify whether it would be a new product category for RED or for the world.

I just assumed Jim was giving a heads up to the people here on Reduser that there was something happening, but that the announcement would be in the form of a link to some other site with more info and a way to purchase or get in line for 'the product'.

Could be wrong on all counts (usually am with these guessing games), but the hints suggested to me something too big and far-reaching to fit under the RED banner.

Lenses?

Thats a category they had before. And Jim won't leave for a lens for years. No. Thats something they simply leave to third parties, because there is a lot of price pressure here and enough companies raised the level pretty high now.

My take is thats its a cell phone extension camera (potentially for exitsing cell phones, which might get inserted) with exchangeable modules. Something aiming for stills, but also for (live) streaming. That makes it gapping space & time, like being elsewhere or have elsewhere poeple feel like they are where I am. Potentially with a cloud service to work like a personal archive and exchange hub, with total user control over my own data (sharing). Something so clever and under user control, that it'll tackle the big boys like Facebook, which got tracked away with their big data attempts to rule us in any way.

Using e.g. Light Field or 3D sensors, would allow to drive an autostereoscopic display (think: Nintendo 3DS), but with an unheard of quality. Or even projection onto your desk surface (I linked a video to something like this the other day). That would mean that AR/VR/3D is automatically there and hopefully implemented in perfect quality, so nothing to question anymore.

That would be a really mass market product line, shrinking the modular RED concept to a smaller device group with way more users and resale channels. A cloud service might be the missing link here...

However, I might have been tracked away myself with all the hints and clues and patents we discussed here recently. I am really happy to be surprised by Jim. I hope he can manage to stand the time till then ;-)

I'll tell 2 friends and you tell 2 friends and so on and so on..... : )

You make good points.

I had assumed Jim was bringing it to REDuser since he enjoys deity status here, while in the outside world his earthling-changing announcement may get overshadowed by a new carbon nanotube microprocessor by IBM or an auto rollout by Elon Musk or a German grocery chain opening in the U.S. or Bezos buying Whole Foods.

But I had also assumed RED would be handling the buying traffic and that I could use money in my account to pay. But if that isn't the case, then I have to be CC READY when orders open up.

wait, what?

My thoughts exactly.

(PS: Still think it's an AR/VR/MR thing; Jim specifically stated that he believed AR/VR/MR being 'officially' dead (or similar phrasing). He may have invented tech that blows currently known AR/VR tech away.

I'm glad this is just 3 days away. Phew. The wait for the original RED camera reveal was a long one!)

Personal transport device that flies. Drone video Jarred posted of Jim awhile back.

As far as I can tell that was a DJI drone, given the Remote Jarred had in his hands while flying in to Vatu Vara Islands between him and Jim.

So I would'nt follow that track.

But who knows?

I just think that'll be WAY beyond the scope of the credit card limits of anyone.

I got it! Tickets for Jim and Jarred's own JURASSIC PARK , woohooo! (my big own wish) ;-P
And now more realistic it must have something to do with some high-tech clothings (good for travel, safe time to wear it and get more space to store it...)

David beat you do it. :wink5:

Based on what I've heard, my credit card is ready. I'm excited to become one of Jim's first participants at Red Island Adventures.

Guests are flown in on his private plane to a secret island where Jim himself greets each one of the guests with a handmade cigar.

Two pina coladas later, guests are introduced to the real surprises that await them on the island.
I'm just hoping the rumors about the dinosaurs are real.
