Unlikely in my opinion.. The package contains 4 SSD's, 4 Red Volts, BOMB EVF and titanium PL mount. I don't think that'll be added to a Scarlet package.
Besides I also think the Scarlet will be priced for small production studio's (the first Scarlet announcement put it in prosumer range). $15K is a bit much
for a small production studio like mine.

i don't remember Ted saying working kit will be around $6K, always camera will be around that price point "give or take" :)
and how much you guys expect 2/3" 3K RAW! 120 fps imaging device will cost ? three thousand dollars? XF100 costs more :)
it's been said so many times it is a professional tool, so expect "professional" price point, even $10K just for the Scarlet (announced specs) with fixed lens and SSD module would be like a gift,
talkin $6k for the working KIT with LCD, SSDs, Side handle, battery and charger would be a miracle,
and i don't believe in miracles.
well, anyways, we'll see it very soon (I hope ) cuz everything is subject to ... you know :)

then gift me one .. ahhahaha ..

so people stop increasing price from yourself... before it was 3k for scarlet ... now its 6k for scarlet ... so price have been increased for extra features already ..

believe me above 7k fixed lens scarlet will not be affordable for many

& please add this video to ur 1st post with NOTE watch video before pricing scarlet :D

I love how some people want it to be more expensive. As if that would make it more professional. It seems they want to keep this camera out of the hands of the people that need it the most: starving artists - aka the riffraff. God forbid those peasants get ahold of it, they might actually create something that has something to say.

I bet between 9 and 11. I was thinking ready to shoot, not just body only without the accessories needed to shoot.

I always saw Scarlet as the high quality affordable indie option. If someone wants the ultimate package, they're going to go for an Epic, not an "almost Epic." It's the lower end that is really craving for an alternative to the dribble put out by the other companies out there. I think Scarlet needs to be in the $6-$8K range to make sense; if it starts getting into the $15K-$20K range, you're in a strange space. This is assuming there's only one Scarlet... multiple flavors would change the equation. And of course that brings us back to the fact that no one knows what the specs even are, so it's useless to speculate. A $15K Scarlet could be absolutely revolutionary depending on the specs... I just don't think that's going to be viable for the market I've seen growing with rabid hunger for this thing over the last few years. The cold reality is that there will be disappointment if it ends up being too far out of people's reach, regardless of what the specs end up being.

I don´t think the specs have changed a lot. It was a 3k, 2/3", HDR capable camera back in April, after years of development. They had to start producing those cams at that time.
Maybe it has one or two software features we don´t know of like playback in camera.

If the fixed specs are the same... a fairly reasonable shooting package should be around the $10k mark (including a couple of extra batteries and SSD cards), that's what I have always budgeted for. If it falls below, great... if it is more, then i'll simply see if I think I can justify the costs.

I don't know if that's entirely dead on. I think Epic-M and Epic-X production has kept Red busy baking cameras in their oven. The advantage here is that Scarlet will benefit greatly from the new manufacturing techniques, building, and employees Red has hired. Also, based on previous posts it looks like they are refining this production process. I have no real numbers to go on, but if Scarlet gets up and running on the line I think 160-200 cameras in a standard work week is possible given a moderate team.

With competition being systems like the Sony F3 ($14,000) and the Panasonic AF100 ($4,700) - those prices without lenses, and with the Scarlet having higher recording resolution and compatibility with the RED modular accessories, I would think a more realistic price for a basic shooting set-up might be around $10,000. I mean, RED is not going to want to give it away, and with the competition's prices to gauge from, $10,000 seems more a likely market price. Maybe we will see usable set-ups falling between a $8,000-$14,000 price range. $6,000 sounds to me like wishful thinking. The body alone, maybe, but I kind of doubt it.

No my man, you got me wrong, like any normal human being i don't want it to be more expensive, I want it to be affordable to everyone, and even more, I want it to be free for the most talented people who shoot amazing stuff with crap cameras, an I don't know why Red doesn't give away at least one a year camera to young genius DPs, it would be very wise PR move and a very good deed from Red;
I am saying do not expect any charity from company that charges $300 for the fairly simple camcorder handle, and I will be happier than you my friend if November 3rd will prove me wrong :)

Since when does the tool makes the artist? You're also going to need lights, audio equipment, and a capable crew so should that be factored into the Scarlet pricing as well?

Also, when I read people complaining about purchase pricing, I'm amazed they haven't considered renting. If you want to own and you can't afford it, then go out and hustle. Make your dreams come true and don't expect them to be handed to you. That's exactly what Jim has done.

Can we all trust him and let the resistance (i.e. negativity) die down a bit? I promise you'll be a much happier person.

I'm not singling you out Paramon, my post was directed at no one in particular. I just don't see Red jumping from approximately 6k to more than 10k in a couple of months. In this economy, 10k is a big chunk of change to shell out for most of us working stiffs. 6k to 8k is still a lot of money for most micro budget filmmakers, but it's within reason for a basic package. Not including Matte box, sticks, shoulder mount etc. etc. etc. which, when all is said and done, will bring the total camera package to well over 10k.

The tool doesn't make the artist, but the artist doesn't make the tool either. The tool is made by someone else and always comes first, then the artist comes along figures out how to make something brilliant with that tool. BTW, I'm not complaining, I'm finding all this speculation to be quite comical.

At 6k you would own the same crowd who bought hvx200 when it was the thing. panny sold over 200,000 of those. the more of something you can sell the lower the costs would be and you would make up the rest on the accessories, a 16gb panny card cost about $950 when it was released. about the same as the 64gb SSD from red

I won't even try to guess a price. I have a set amount I know I can spend, which will be the most I've ever spent on anything...even more than a car. And only 1K more than the highest guess (not including media). But like many are saying I don't want it to be a hand out but I want it to be affordable. I fully intend on making the camera pay itself off so to speak, and fully intend to use it for my own ideas and work as well. Many of us have other jobs and this is a dream that we live through saving.

I trust RED will price this more than fairly even if it's a little more than we expect. I'll save longer if it's more than I think it is within reason. I have no doubt it will hold it's value. But this is really top of the budget for me. It is a tough economy and others in my family are out of work. I'm sure that is taken into consideration as well. One thing we all know is that it will blow anything in it's competitive field away higher or lower in price than we are expecting.

I don't want to sound patronizing or as a person that want's to increase the Scarlet's price - I would like to share my view. The view-point that is sort-of coming more from the reason center than from the heart center.
I see people calling for a 6K package price as thinking more from the heart center. (actually, I'm writing this to silence my "heart center" thinking :-)

Now, why do I think that the specs have changed/improved?

I hope everyone here will be paying attention Nov. 3rd. Scarlet is going to blow you away. Recon. Scarlet belongs...
Jim

While using the Scarlet with the known price/specs would blow me away - reading the same known specs on Nov 3rd would definitely NOT blow me away. I would assume this is valid for a majority.
Would anyone agree this quoted post doesn't make much sense if the Scarlet specs don't improve?

Why do I think the price will change?

Everything in life changes. We are just the only ones in this industry that seems to embrace the concept and be proud of it.

Don't let this approach frustrate you. Embrace it. In every instance I can think of, the change was better than the idea or product it replaced.

Jim

You should read it several times!!
Why would anyone be frustrated with improved specs. Two possible reasons:
- DELAY - there were enough post about delay so I'm sure this one isn't talking about that
- PRICE INCREASE - I remember a lot of frustration whenever there was a price increase (i.e. HDRx introduction), mainly by the ppl for whom the price increase put the Scarlet out of the reach.
(We'll, there were also those frustretees' insecure in theirs creative capabilities which wanted to keep the gap (HDRx) between Scarlet and EPIC AHAP (Huge), but they are irrelevant in this story:-)

Other posts could also be used as examples but these two are enough to present my view.
Therefore I'm personally preparing for the price increase to avoid any disappointment/bitterness on the Nov3rd. I propose you all try to think about this.
I don't want to speculate on the final package price or specs (I done it enough times already) but I'm sure the specs&price will go up Nov 3rd.

Depends on what you mean by package. For a scarlet fixed configuration (you charge it up, you pick it up and you use it). $2000 to $5000 dollars based on spec. Lots of extra gear more. s35 more, plus lens prices.
