  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

lenses for red raven

you dont think angeniuex zooms and ultra primes can match? optimos can be rented with ef mounts all the time. ive dont countless jobs with those two together and everything matches fine. For actual jobs ill be renting optimos, but im mainly looking to see a few affordable lenses for personal or lower budget fun. now if you were talking about matching cookes or something id understand...

Yes you make great points and are totally right, I should of been more clear, But yes in that scenario, piece of cake. I was speaking in general terms. Cookes would be a great example of how I would have trouble matching. Its just not the roight camera for me, I would rather just get another MX.

got it, i wonder if mx and dragon sensors match well?
though i havent seen an mx in a good year or so.

I discart Canon CN as 24mm is T3.1, Zeiss CP2 as the same or poor at wide, same with Xeen. There's no other FF with wide and fast features

You don't have the numbers right. The Canon CN-E 14mm is T3.1 not the 24mm which is T1.5. I think that the Canon CN-Es are the best lenses avalible for the Raven. That is, if you can't modify CineAltas or the Red Pro primes.
The best line of lenses for this camera would really be the Red Pro primes since they fell out of the spotlight as soon as the sensor sizes started to grow. If they were able to modify them into EF lenses that would be nice.

As for your opinion with "cheap lenses", the still lenses are not bad at all. The Raven should be a perfect fit for use with wifi-based FFs so, the FF problem with still lenses shouldn't be that bad.

I think you ask a little too much about these lenses. FF lenses that can go fast at under 20mm are very rare and as cine-lenses even rarer.

Do you think red would ever make a set of lenses for the raven? I have been doing some research on there old 18-50 and 50-150. They seem real light wight and compact. If they made lenses similar in size and range in an ef mount i would be all over it!

Just to add on the same note, as far as I know you could order all or most Angeniux Zoom lenses with either EF or PL, in fact the film 'Blue is the Warmest Color' which won the Palm D'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival was shot on a C300 with Angeniux EF mount 28-76!

No need to convert Angeniux to anything, you could just order them with EF, this also the reason Jarred posted a picture of Raven with the DP!

Other option with Angeniux is you could order this: http://www.angenieux.com/kcfinder/upload/files/angenieux-accessories-dslr-mounts-201409.pdf

For people who prefer to own equipment, I think glass is a solid investment, have DP friend of mine that bought a set of Super speeds 15-20 years ago and still use them day in, day out...

thanks for the info, i know there is a bunch of us still trying to determine if the old DP optimos, with the extended rear element would work with this camera or would it hit the olpf.
but certain technical measurements havent been released yet, i hope soon! though im really starting to lean towards lenses that, like i said, communicate with the camera.

Old DP work fine, the problem with them was with PL mount Cameras with Mirror Shutter, mainly Film Cameras. No problem with EF.

But I get you, many people will utilise the electronic communication of the camera. Although, that's narrows your options and also won't let you grow with other systems, but that's fine, you could always start small then when you got enough cash get more pro cinema lenses..

are you sure? because even the top lens guys, like jacek, are saying they arent quite sure if they will work or not.

Didn't follow the thread if anybody already talked about these, but the GDU lenses will be quite interesting, once (or if – hehehe) they release them to the public ;)

I'd imagine that these might turn out to be rather on the expensive side of things, which might make them uninteresting again for RAVEN. I believe these are being built with the 8K sensor in mind. But who knows.

Since Jarred posted an image of the 24mm mounted to the RAVEN, this might still be something worth watching out for. Only time and Jarred will tell ;)

thats a lens??? i thought it was just a cap. GDU?

As far as I know if you get the DP with EF mount and put it on EF mount camera why it won't work? as I said, it worked great for many films. I think what jacek talked about is using or doing a conversion but those lenses (again as far as I know) do not need conversion, they were and still are optionally sold as EF and as you could see in my link also could now be bought with EF/Nikon adapter from Angeniux.

Having said that, I'm sure you could email them to be 100% sure.

The original DP lenses did not fit on Epic. There was a kit from angenieux that moved the rear element away from the sensor so the lenses could be put on Epic cameras and Scarlet. I have done few of those.
That was long time ago however. You may not have been born yet then ;-)

You are talking about the PL versions or EF? Thanks.

There was no EF option back then.

exactly, im talking about the ones that go back to the time they had "not for use on film cameras" imprinted on the back element :)
if they do work then they are at some nice prices right now, as well ceico7 makes a nice positive lock adapter now, but its $720.
my only thing is if not having digital comunication with the brain hurts me in the long run.
i wish sigma would put out a version of their 18-35 that was cine style but keeping the electronic control…guess ill cine mod one.

also, still curious was that so called GDU lens is that was mentioned on jarreds camera???

Give that "cine mod" a rest guys- it's so 2008 ;-)
That's what OptiTron2 is for in 2015 haha
I have no clue what a "GDU" lens is. It must be some secret code of Patrics ;-)
