  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LEICA R on RED: Pictures

Or is it wiser for me to keep the serial between 29X - 32X, so I can get the 35/2 32XX and 90/2 31XX ??
Yes I agree, it does require lots of patience.

Would the 1990s 19mm v2 lens match with other 1980s lens set?

If the 1980s lens set is from the late '80s, a 19mm v2 is from 1990 should match fairly well. But if the '80s set is pre-1983 the colors will be different.

Right here on REDuser, there are four sets or so up in the marketplace.

Just make sure you follow what's in this thread, get clean copies, and matching serials. Whatever you start with is whatever you're going to want to match.

Mark M is a great source for trustworthy copies. I bought from him as well.

Thanks Kholi, im currently in touch with Mark M. Im trying to make sure I buy the right ones I need.

Anyone here with a Helium 8k Epic-W can do a frame grab with a 19mm leica r? would love to see how wide i can get with it!

thank you

Waiting on to get allocated for 8k Helium, but these was taken with the 19mm Leica R v2 by GL Optics on Red Weapon Dragon. Absolutely love my Leica R's, but find that I use the 19mm the least out of my set. First one was 6kFF, middle two 6kHD, and last 6k2.1 so as long as it covers the Dragon sensor in FF it will definitely cover Helium!

Redusers, I've got the option of picking up a copy of the 90mm 2.0 ASPH. or the 80mm 1.4 (both r) - just a simple question. Which would you go with and why? Would love opinions of anyone who has had experience with both!

EDIT: I stumbled upon the same question inside this thread. Wondered if I would! :smile5:
SO, for those of you who might be wondering the same thing Mark M has weighed in on the matter:

Chad, great tough question. I've gone back and forth a few times and eventually decided both were requirements :)

I find them both amazing/unique but very different. It probably boils down to the type of set you want – more vintage or modern, and the benefits/differences that go along with each. There are many reasons to go either way. While they're both all-Leica, the 80mm F1.4 Lux is the ultimate Mandler design from the late '70s (apparently his own favorite of the many lenses he designed) and full of character/bloom wide open but closed down it becomes one the sharpest vintage lenses available anywhere.

The 90mm F2 APO is a 2002 design with modern optical corrections that captures a more consistent well-corrected image across the frame and all apertures. The body design is much more modern too with more butter focus action. But if you prefer the character that comes along with vintage glass especially in out of focus areas, the 90 may seem a bit 'boring' by comparison (i.e. rather evenly blurred like most modern glass), whereas the 80 is full of character there. To complicate things, late 80 1.4s render colors that more closely resembles the 90 APO's in hue and saturation than an early 80 1.4 as there were various color updates over time.

Depending on the desired look I'll reach for one over the other. For instance a few weeks ago on a Vietnam-related docu scene with an older male talking head, the director wanted all the background foliage 'to disappear' and flatter him with a hint of softness but without missing in-focus sharpness. The 80 Lux 1.4 put a huge smile on his face when he saw it on the monitor at wide open. But for cleaner, very well-corrected edge to edge performance in modern Leica rendering style, the 90mm APO is an amazing option but at a higher price.

Otherwise even the classic 90 Summicron is amazing in its own right too, along with the 90 Elmarit (and then there's the astounding 70-180 2.8 APO zoom:)
There are just so many great Leica R lenses in this focal range, you really can't go wrong.

...

And great stills from your film Chad, I'm looking forward to it!

Newbie question alert!

Which Leica to EF adapter would you choose for Leica R? Is their one professional brand for example?

Thankx and sorry!

Leitax adapters are a good/solid hard mount solution. Novoflex adapters seem to be the best removable ones.

A few quick grabs from yesterdays shoot. Both shot on the 35mm elmarit.

Nice frames Kristopher!

The 35mm Elmarit is often overshadowed by the Summicron and Summilux, but its a great lens too.

This was shot entirely with my set of Leica R's:

-Elmarit 19mm/2.8
-Elmarit 28mm/2.8
-Summicron 35mm/2
-Summilux 50mm/1.4
-Elmarit 60mm/2.8 Macro
-Summicron 90mm/2.8
-Elmarit 135mm/2.8
-Elmarit 180mm/2.8
