LEICA R on RED: Pictures

Thanks Dan & Les!

@Dan: This image shift is just visible with my dji remote focus... I haven´t pulled focus with my hand for a long time; but will try again.
@Les: This direction thing sounds good - I will have a look at it!

Christian, remember the Leica R lenses where never intended to work with remote focus motors, which cause a lot of strain on the lenses. This is often the case with older optics, even older cinema lenses. I've had issues with image shift and C series Hawks, but they were quite worn. Also I find issues with Zeiss superspeeds and focus motors especially when a LMB5 is mounted.

Thanks Dan & Les!

To be honest, with the internal nd on Alexa Mini, I often use no mb at all now. Which is great, but looks funny in the bts videos ;-)

With the INSANE price of the R, isnt it better to add a few hundred bucks and get the M series lenses ?? :confused1::confused1::confused1::confused1:

Ms are great for photography, especially on the M system. But they don't adapt nearly as well as Rs for motion work (due to their small size, limited focus throw rotation, flange distance issues, etc.).
Rs also extend further on the wide and telephoto ends with lenses like the 15mm, 19mm and 100mm macro on up.

That's the way to go! I totally agree.

I do the same with the Motion Mount too!

My lenses are even happier now he he!

I have a question that bugs me long time:
How do you prevent this "micro-shakings" on the image when start focusing with a (remote) follow focus on leica r glass ..?
Earlier I thought that this is caused by adapters from Leica R to EF mount - But now I have the Leitax Adapters on my Leicas and this still happens.

Do you know what I mean? When I start focusing, the image shifts a bit
does it almost look like double vision?

The microshaking sounds like it could be play in the focus mounts. Their tight tolerances often loosen up over time.
If they haven't been serviced in a while a focus mount CLA might be just what they need.

what is micro shaking and what is image shift, wondering if I have seen this in my mamiyas and rs

also who should we send R's to for tip top conditioning? Leica NJ?

Well since I'm just waiting for this hurricane to hit, figure that gives me some time to play catch-up with the reduser forums. Here's some stills from the thriller/horror film we wrapped the other day, hasn't been graded yet-just converted to REDWideGamutRGB. Shot on Weapon Magnesium with GL Optics Leica R 19, 35, 50, 90 Summicrons:

My experience of Steve's Camera is excellent. Fine work, reasonably priced, and delivered when said. How can you beat that?!!

+1 for Steve's Camera.

They usually turn around my orders in less than a week, whereas Leica NJ can take 6 months or longer and typically aren't any cheaper.

I see a lot of guys buying these, cinevising em and calling it a day. Then later wonder why this or that isn't up to snuff. The bottom line is most of these can greatly benefit from a CLA, and some even require additional servicing to perform near their potential (or better left as-is and find a replacement instead).

Nice Chris. Stay safe! I'm from Davie originally so I know how much of a shit storm those things can be!

I have a bunch of R's and love the look of them...- use them more than my Cooke5's...

I did have an issue on my last shoot with purple fringing around the highlights on my 90 wide open w bright window in background-....- anyone have this issue? I guess it is a combo of the CA of the lens and the dragon...- I have never seen it when I shoot with Mini...

Thanks
