LEICA R on RED: Pictures

Hello guys,
I need some guidance over here, which is the exact filter size for the Leica Elmarit R 90mm f2.8 I, Serial 2268xxx around 68 and 70's, I have try to find the precise information but I only got this, "Series VII + 14161 filter ring?, I would like to know if any one here can pointme on the right direteciont.

Thank you.

Series VII lenses accept 50.8mm filters.

One of my Leica Rs had a Series 7 ring that I was able to unscrew to access a more popular size filter thread.

Does anyone here have experience with the GL Optics Leica R conversion set?

M

Nice one Lakis! Do you have a release date in mind?

Thank you David and Mark. I wanted to frame the actor 15% more to the right but I wanted his face to be ultra-sharp and did not want to lose even the slightest detail. I'm trying to have this movie ready before the end of this year Mark. But as you know the X factor some times is bigger than you thought so... let's hope. By the way.. this is with the 50mm E60 you got me. This lens is Pure Magic. Could not be happier, thanks!
This one is with the Leica 180mm F:2.0, another rare and truly amazing lens. Out of several hundreds of shots so far there was not a single one that I was not impressed with this Leica gem. Because of the F:2.0 you can play with the DOF from razor sharp to endless sharp as you can see in this pic.

Hello Lakis,

Great shoot with the 180mm, very awesome lens, I own the 180 f2.8... And I love it.

By the way I think I know your actress, her name is Tamila? I shoot a music video last year and she was acting on that proyect.

keep the good work man.

Yes Carlos! That's Tamila. It's the second film I work with her. Previous one was THE MASTER. Fantastic actress/person. Thank you so much, fan of your work as well. We need to work on a project together, I have some great ideas if you interested. Thanks!

Lakis, it will be great to hear more from Your ideas and proyects.

the contax and the leica 15mm lens are the same optical design, but with different coatings!

I prefer the leica to the contax...

Leica lenses have an awesome look and contrast profile.. really stunning lenses.

this is a great thread!!!

Id really enjoy seeing some comparisons of the older serial numbers vs the newer ones on contrast and sharpness..

I hate to say it but I'm 100% sure that you won't regret. I really love extreme wide angles and considering alternative options I think the 15.6mm 2.8 is a lens without match. Maybe the Zeiss 2.8 which is 1/2 the price. But still I like the Leica coatings more. The difference between 3.5 and 2.8 is day and night. This lens is a dream come true. I heard so much about it and I must say that it's not even all I can say. I can add a ton more.
All shot with the Leica 15.6mm 2.8 except the 2 last ones that were shot with the legend and absolutely amazing 100mm macro Leica R. As David said a masterpiece.

This is a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_Anole. There are many in South Florida, some like this baby one are very friendly. It's amazing how they change colors.

This shot is with the 15.6mm 2.8 Leica lens also and I did a software zoom. Filmed at 80fps 6k and slowed from 100% to 40% in twixtor. 17:1 compression

The Leica 15mm 2.8 asph (that Lakis posted about) is not the same optical design as the Contax.

I believe you're referring to the older Leica 15mm f3.5, which is still a good lens but not in the same class/price-range.

I was referring to the 15mm f/3.5 lenses

my mistake..

Almost missed this... I hear you about the timelines. Have so many projects that originally thought would be done by now... Well I look forward to seeing your movie whether its finished end of this year or later.

Glad you're loving the 50 E60, its really an amazing piece of glass. And the 180 F2 apo is... wow, phenomenal. Probably wouldn't have picked one up if you hadn't raved about it as was already content with my 180 2.8 apo, but certainly glad I did. Never thought I'd have two Leica R 180s, but now I can't imagine parting with either one!

I'm happy to say I finally have an entire set put together, and even worse, I've been bit by the bug bad and want more!

What are the good zoom lenses I should keep my eye out for? I know it's obviously dependent for what I'm shooting, but generally what are the good versions that I could add to my kit?

Right now in my kit I have all 80's glass:
19mm V1 2.8
28mm V1 2.8
35mm V2 2.0
50mm V2 2.0
90mm V2 2.0
135mm V2 2.8

Brian, in my personal set i've got 80 and 50 summiluxes from the 80's, but to cover for them when i need modern and perfect i've got a 35-70 /4 which is amazing.
If you've got the $$$ then look for 35-70 2.8 and 70-180 2.8 and never look back. Basically, that's it.
There's also 80-200 /4 which is good, other zooms are either not quite cine-friendly or not truly designed by Leica.

Adding to Paul's list the other Leica zoom may want to consider is the 21-35 3.5-4. Initially overlooked it due to poorer performance at 21mm, but seems to be as good as primes from about 24-35mm and mine is parfocal too.

Otherwise the older Angenieux zooms in LR mount are nice options for a more vintage look. The 2 best seem to be the 45-90mm 2.8 and 70-210mm 3.5.

Does anyone have any perspective on the 35mm f4 curtagon? It seems like an odd lens and interests me.
