LEICA R on RED: Pictures

http://red.3dmovies.com/leica-15mm-r-28-south-florida-almost-dark-video_49ec54c50.html Snapshots taken today after the sunset. It was much darker than you can see in the video snaps.
Just got one of the 2 very rare 15mm's 2.8 Leica R's and am very impressed by it. 3D must look unreal with these lenses. I used the Nikon 15mm 3.5 but this one is a different class. The actual mm are 15.6 so it's closer to a 16 than a 15mm. It can focus so close that the object almost touches the lens! Awesome depth of field.

David,

thanks a lot! I'll be sharing some images soon.

Cheers

Welcome Carlos, looking forward to seeing your images.

Lakis, don't make me hunt down a 15mm 2.8 apo! :)

I hate to say it but I'm 100% sure that you won't regret. I really love extreme wide angles and considering alternative options I think the 15.6mm 2.8 is a lens without match. Maybe the Zeiss 2.8 which is 1/2 the price. But still I like the Leica coatings more. The difference between 3.5 and 2.8 is day and night. This lens is a dream come true. I heard so much about it and I must say that it's not even all I can say. I can add a ton more.
All shot with the Leica 15.6mm 2.8 except the 2 last ones that were shot with the legend and absolutely amazing 100mm macro Leica R. As David said a masterpiece.

This is a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_Anole. There are many in South Florida, some like this baby one are very friendly. It's amazing how they change colors.

This shot is with the 15.6mm 2.8 Leica lens also and I did a software zoom. Filmed at 80fps 6k and slowed from 100% to 40% in twixtor. 17:1 compression

Hello everyone !

I was wondering if anyone here can share some info on ways to put gears on the iris rings of Leica R lenses ?
I really need to control iris remotely, with my set we often shoot and control dragon remotely, shooting car to car with externally mounted dji ronin.

My first idea was that all rings are basically the same in size, markings differ, so i would just remanufacture aperture rings with gear teeth added.
BUT after measuring my seven lenses i surprisingly found out that all the rings are of the same construction but differ in sizes. So it turns out i need to carefully install gear rings over the original ones. Bummer. Also the rings are thin(4-6mm wide) and most lens gears like jbk cinequipt are like 7mm wide.

Please share some wisdom. I am not in US, so i cant just send it to duclos, etc and risk several times with my rare glass, so i'll have to manufacture something locally.

Thank you Carlos! In 3D looks unreal also!. I like also to know how to put gears on the iris rings. Is not as easy and I found it prohibitively expensive (for me at this time at least) to do it the best way (Duclos etc).

Wow, those do look great Lakis! Guess I'll have be adding a 15 2.8 to the list for 2016... (and my 100 apo macro isn't going anywhere ;)

Very glad to be a bad influence to you Mark! Some more taken today in Boca Raton, Mizner Park, Florida with the 15.6mm 2.8 Leica. At 2.8 of course. Cheers!

I would guess gearing the aperature ring would be really tricky unless you do a complete rehouse such as a GL optics rehouse or similar. The aperature ring is very close to the camera body so getting a motor in there would be tricky as well. Good luck, I'd like to see what you come up with.

Duclos did a fantastic job adding aperture gears to my set of Leica-R's. Definitely a must.

Testing out the elmarit r 90mm 2.8. Mostly shot wide open with natural light. (1980 edition lens) (just added some contrast in red cine)

Willis, i second David Battistella's request for photos of modified lenses,
What is approximate price range per lens, if you don't mind me asking ?

I'll have to check my invoices, currently on vacation in Thailand. I'll make sure I post pictures the moment I get back before I take off to CES. If you're familiar how the Duclos 11-16 is, the area where the aperture marking are set isn't geared, so the gear isn't a full 360 circumference, same rule applies to adding aperture rings on your Leicas.

Hello guys,
I need some guidance over here, which is the exact filter size for the Leica Elmarit R 90mm f2.8 I, Serial 2268xxx around 68 and 70's, I have try to find the precise information but I only got this, "Series VII + 14161 filter ring?, I would like to know if any one here can pointme on the right direteciont.

Thank you.
