Hello,

Anybody going to NAB 2016 could give us some more infos about the Latitude Sidekick module that mounts between the Weapon body and Red's Sidekick?

I think their vision is really clever. Closer to the lens is always better!

I would love to see the prototype working on a video (if it's ready yet).

This is so incredibly BADASS and the most innovative design I've seen. Who knew you could stick stuff BETWEEN the sidekick and the body. Awesome

im very curious about it too. does it need to be powered by a cable though or it gets its power from the pogo port, and do you need a sidekick attached?
and most of all can you mount it btwn the new side grip!!!

seems like the best thing ive seen just to even have lemo ports.

You have to power it as the power draw : motors & 3 extra Lemo power output, needs more Amp. But I wonder how much power it would eat up with 1 motor, RF and 2 thumb wheels?
Good question about the side grip.

Pat

PS: as this is fine tuned for the Weapon I hope they will make custom calbes and not those 60cm cables they have as standard (power&motors).

From what I read on Facebook, you need a very short power cable to plug it in, the sidekick connector isn't enough to power it. So you run a little 3" cable from the aux power out on the camera to the module, or from the Ptap. You also need to run a very small ctrl cable to it so that it can do start/stop functions and control EF lenses from the hand unit. So, while it's positioned under the sidekick, it appears to only be passing through the sidekick functions and not actually using that connection for anything of it's own- which leads me to assume it'll work with the new side handle as well.

Which is fine by me, I think it's a brilliant design and will definitely be getting one. Seems like a small enough accessory that it can just live on the camera like a top plate. When you're not using a FIZ system, you just take off the cables and you're good to go. This will be a killer solution for Movi setups too; one more way to make the camera setup more streamlined and simplified.

Not compatible with new side handle, but can also just have any dumb sideplate (sidekick not required)

Yes needs external power.

In an ideal world yes we could eliminate CTRL cable... Kris can certainly do it... But not 100% sure the sidekick connector is available for 3rd parties yet (that is why it was conceived as a pass thru only for now)

Yes to installing this module and never remove it again ;-)

thanks Sam Renollet from RVZ for pushing this idea from the beginning and Kris for turning it into a great product.

Working proto will be at NAB but without sidekick passthru (yet) as it is just 'hot out of the oven'...

Kris is on the plane right now to NAB with it so he may reply later with more info on this latitude...

wish i didnt have to cancel nab for work, dying to see this all work, still a little confused about it all.
i am for sure looking to get a working lemo prt on the camera somehow, but also a wireless focus system.
now am i wrong, but this can work with EF lenses with no focus motor too?
just this, and a handset? and you use a motor only when you have true cine lenses attached?

Fantastic design; really impressed guys!

Chris some of us are already rt motion customers and also have a pre-order in for latitude(me)

Hopefully we can participate in the group buy too!

Nice
any chance for USB output?

Yeah RTMOTION hit a jackpot with this one I think!

Kris, If you are reading this thread please could you clarify once for all 2 questions that arose here:

1) Will you be able to avoid the external CTRL cable passing through the Side connection? Please...it would be much tidier!

2) Could you confirm the case has the necessary rigidity to being able to be sandwiched between the brain and the new Side Handle?

and for Mika THE GREAT™:

With Latitude can we disable in camera wifi, right?
And use only the stronger ad-hoc wifi provided by Latitude, right?

Hi!!

1) I'm assuming that you'll need the external CTRL. I'll continue to talk to the RED tech team- if it can be done RIGHT, we'll do it. But I'd say, more unlikely than likkely.

2) Yes, absolutely! It will be a big old lump of machined aluminium which will definitely be rigid enough. I need to spec some good captive bolts- they may end up titanium for extra strength (since they need to be 20mm longer than the stock ones... We'll test heavily

Actually it'd TBC whether we will put WIFI inside... It is not certain that it will be any better than the camera WIFI! So, wifi is NOT a feature in the current plan. The camera has WIFI afterall :)

There is a NAB discount of 10% going live in the morning :) It's TBC whether it's possible to anything more special for a group buy... I'm already being aggressive on price here. Same with the SMART KNOB, so... So, no guarantees, except: IF YOU HAVE PRE-ORDER WHICH HASN'T SHIPPED, then any upcoming offer (including NAB 10%) can apply. Go to your invoice, click EDIT... Then go to; bit.do/nab16 .. and it'll add to the cart

Hello I've allready ordered the lattitude sidekick module and a motor due to long delivery date. Does it mean that the discount also applys to thumb wheel and other accessories not only to the sidekick module? I should have bought all the stuff now and not waited until my module have delivery date to get the rebate to everything i order?

Does editing your invoice (for the discount) change the order in the queue?

It applies to the whole order, and it wont change queue position unless you add way more stuff which is in high demand (latitude versions, and motors), just because that would be unfair :)
