  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lars Von Trier's Melancholia shot on Red?

You just made my day!

Looks great (visually and story wise). From what I've seen, I think the differences between Alexa and RedMX are minimal in terms of image - I mean from how it looks, this could easily be Red footage.

The phantom shots look amazing too - wonder if it's the 65?

Antichrist is still the best-looking Red film, in my opinion.

Wow, so far it looks like an ad for a perfume called "Melancholia"
Almost as syrupy as Terrence Malick's Hallmark moment (trailer) called "The Tree Of Life"

Perhaps the end of the world is nearer than we think. ( :

Then it's not entirely ridiculous.

And that is exactly my point.

Like many others, I have been a great admirer of VonTrier since "Zentropa"; and Malick since "Badlands". Perhaps it's for that very reason that these two trailers fail to sing to me, and seem surprisingly saccharin: still, I'm sure both will be relieved to hear that they will continue to get my money, because I see their off moments as being equal to most other filmmaker's peaks - VonTrier's occasionall crude emotional manipulation, and Malick's profound treatment of a less than profound instance, notwithstanding.

Using Von Trier's own criteria - which suggests, more or less, If his films succeed in the US, then he has failed as an artist/filmmaker - it will be interesting to see if Melancholia fails by succeeding, or succeeds by failing. ( ;

ehehehe it is him no doubt

as zentropa is a pioneer in social media marketing and using open networks such as vimeo, i would think they also managed to update imdb-profiles for their productions...

I can confirm that it is Alexa and not RED cause I know the 1st AC from that production.
They used two Alexas, if I don't remember wrong, and Onboard-Codex recorders which they put on the vests of the easyrigs that they were using. A pretty nice rigg, unfortunatly I don't have any pics on the riggs.

In addition to the camera etc.. some of you might want to check out German artist Albrecht Durer's engraving: "Melencolia". Considering the trailer's imagery ( "What star is that?") and Von Trier's knowledge of art, there are already a few parallels.

I'm still not completely certain whether this is meant as a tongue in cheek poke at apocalyptic melodramas, or a serious look at the consequences of facing one's premature demise, or both.
