  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

The Zeiss lenses used in the last video are, if I remember from owning the 35mm and 50mm Contax lenses, fairly sharp. The Laowa lenses from the reviews I've seen and read are not as sharp.
Imagine my shock. ;-)

Karim,

I have also seen modern sharp lenses give great cinematic images with high resolution sensors as well. I think it's lighting, Shot composition, lens perspective/foreground-background compression and color correction/grading that will most definitely give you much better results.

Is there any way to disable the screen on Komodo? So there is less power consumption when the camera is not accessible and controlled remotely.

The first clip was some of the best looking Komodo footage I've seen in a while(color, motion, feel). The second(the standoff) looked like video. There's just something about the motion and light that don't feel right. And I've been seeing that on a lot of the footage that has been coming out from it, lately.

While lighting and lens choice certainly influence it, I think that the "cinematic" feeling of the first clip comes down significantly to the camera movement. The DP does a good job activating the foreground or creating a sense of parallax so that it feels dynamic.
In the second clip, I agree that the lighting has something to do with the sense sometimes that there's a "video" feel. But I also think it's about the wide angles with a lot of stuff in focus. Nothing wrong with that look-- big series and movies have used it--, it just has some associations with the video world.

Shot On RED Komodo 6K

Hi all, first post here, a big hello from Belfast in Ireland. Just wanted to say thanks to this community for educating me on the wiles of the Komodo, I have just ordered one and am eagerly awaiting its arrival. We are a fledgling production company with big aspirations, working in the fields of drama and documentary and anticipate having many questions over the next while.

My short Story... A chat with a RED Rep with miscommunication and my KOMODO camera is not being redirected to me. Instead they are rufunding me the money... Everything went well with my rep then it changed rep and boom... miscommunication and misunderstandings...

2 Things... Very impressed this happens since it never happens RED rep are sharp on this I was told they will let me know when I will provide an address to reship but this time I didn't have the last word based on the options they gave me (the changing of Rep messed the whole communication) and I expected I was supposed to let them know my decision when they game me options...... and 2. Now the worst thing is they might not take the Hydrogen Discount if there was a deadline for that. If this is the case that will suck...

I have no idea why this happened and frustrated about it.. Was so excited to receive my camera one way or another after months of the purchase made.

:(

Alain,

I'm sure after a Red Team member sees this post that they will help you resolve this problem.

I don't mind doing it all over. At this point I am not in a rush... But if I lose the discount it will suck. hehehehe

By the way Rand... Today Vaxis got RED approved ... Kinda cool...
