  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

Like DSMC2 i though Komodo had a gyro? With a rolling shutter this actually really is useful. I believe the DSMC2 gyro accuracy is not quite good enough and getting the data out of the R3D frames seems a bit difficult but it is there...

That Slider V2 - it's quite noisy so be aware of that, it is lovely and compact. But actually i totally recommend the SliderPLUS range, it is much quieter, the slide module is great and on a tripod it will extend twice it's length. I have the larger pro model and have managed to use a full DSMC2 rig on it both manual and under app control. The only downside is that it won't do vertical or a strong incline. The SliderV2 will go vertical but the speed of move is much slower than horizontal... If you want to know anything just ask away.

cheers
Paul

Thanks for sharing Paul... good to know

I understand that keeping the Komodo as uncluttered and nimble as possible would be in keeping with the original intent of its size. However, if the additional add-on unit could be kept at a minimal size, I think that the benefits of a major additional feature that couldn't be added in-camera would be worth it.

The SlideONE PRO V2 slider does look great but my only concern with it is how well would it support the Komodo's weight. And since it seems to be meant for a smaller DSLR type camera, how smooth would the sliding motion be with the Komodo's weight.

Indeed. By know I'm excited about any bigger size with KOMODO... it will be awesome... The challenge here is for the little gigs to find the know how of 2 or 3 tight compact setups for the big gaps between bigger productions...

Sliders are super interesting now to the point I would love to be able to test them all... I mean Edelkrone has Jibs you build onto your tripod... motorized that can make lots of things interesting...

I love this new era of equipment... hahahahahaha

I just seen that today! Looks friggen sick, and I agree that the Brass knuckle handle is over the top cool.

Alain,

I'm sure that with all of the third-party manufacturers for after-market products for the Komodo out there , that we will see many other innovative product ideas over the next few months.

Maybe we'll see some more awesome handgrip alternatives from Red, GDU or other third-party vendors for more customization options for the Red Komodo.

Maybe RED will use those pins for some type of LIDAR link to greatly improve autofocus. Or maybe this LIDAR link could give distance info to a motorized focus pulling unit by RED or most any other company and it would automatically pull focus based on its distance readings kinda like DJI's "Raveneye".

LIDAR would be cool, but honestly I'm hoping more for some real audio options. A couple XLRs with phantom power and a clean preamp would be very useful.

Brian,

Maybe a streamlined Version of the DSMC 2 "Production Module" that would be more appropriate for Komodo's smaller size, without perhaps most of the SDI in's and out's but Primarily the XLR jacks and maybe a few other modern ports. Maybe they could work out some third-party deal with Sound Devices.

RED KOMODO - GLOBAL SHUTTER AERIAL TEST - MAKING OF

By
maofilm

I'm assuming results of the Aerial tests will be come soon!

48 hours of helicopter setup.
Analysis and test of the Red Komodo 6k global shutter with Panatronics,
1 day of aerial shooting with Heliwest with Ecureuil 350 and 355
on critical conditions of vibration and speed. SPEED 50 - 80 KNOTS
Maofilm is always attentive and present on every occasion.
WE DID NOT INTENTIONALLY USE: GIMBAL - ANTIVIBRATION - ND FILTER
We only used the global shutter to discover the potential in critical conditions.
