  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

Who in Europe (specially around Austria, Slovenia, Croatia) has one for rent?

I do know one in Austria already, might be able to set something up for renting as well.

I think Jarred mentioned the losses associated with the Beta and early ST cameras were the result of paying engineers to hand assemble and QC them. Compared to normal assembly line costs, labor for each unit was much higher. Rush production of short runs of components from suppliers not shut down during the pandemic could have had some impact too.

Unless they are hand soldering the tiny components on the circuit boards (not even sure it's possible at those sizes) doesn't seem like that many hours (so cost even at engineer rates). Haven't we seen assembly videos in the past on Epics that only took a few hours. (NAB one year?). I can see that it would add the differential price to the cost but a little skeptical that it pushes it to where it would be a real loss. Nuff said on that question, Ir's not really important. Again my final point was maybe look at other alternatives for the Hydrogen "discount"

You're Welcome M, If I can Call you that!

Yeah, it almost seems like some unspoken contract. You have to use a Sigma 18-35 lens or face severe punishment,HaHaHaHa. It is a great lens however and an excellent choice for the komodo.

Download available at vimeo page link below. However, the max available is 1080P but even that looks great!

Clifford probably meant for her skin to be green, but just in case.

Haha-- you may call me "M." (Just one of many ways in which I'm similar to a James Bond character?) But "Matt" is also ok-- that's what it actually stands for. :-)

HaHaHaHa

Alright then Matt, I 'll remember that for future reference. And speaking of "M", can't wait for the latest bond movie to finally come out.

Hello Folks... been gone for a while... Any updates when we can order the regular production line of KOMODO?

Happy Weekend

Cheers

KOMODO update September 13th — OK things moving along over here quite nicely. Last week we pressed go with our manufacturing partners in Northern California and in Mexico as we officially begin preproduction for the normal black production Komodos. Don’t get too excited.... This bring-up takes some time.. normally just a bit over a month and there is still lots to do and still lots of opportunity for shit to go sideways so all of you waiting for the black cameras cross your fingers and I’ll keep you updated along the way..

Just a reminder since people keep emailing me, The email-Jarred-and-knock-on-the-backdoor-stormtrooper-list is closed. We have been assembling the remaining stormtrooper parts and will send them to our premier dealers in the next week or two, so if you want to get a stormtrooper please beep the dealer you love the most from the list below. Inventory will be limited and I assume will probably go fast. Once they are sold out that’s it for the white Komodos. Thank you all that have come along for the ride.. this beta program has been more successful than I could have ever imagined. Knock on wood, but the engineers have never had this stable of a pre-production build going into launch and it’s all because of you hundreds of soldiers out there hammering on your Komodos and breaking them and sending in the feedback.

Anyways, here is the list of Premier RED dealers that will get some ST Komodos, If you wanna jump in beep them quick, as most of them already have their own list with only a few spots remaining. .

B&H PHOTO, ABELCINE, ADORAMA ,FILMTOOLS

So Rand was this shot using Anamorphic glass or just regular CP3 Super 35s?
I going to be working on a project in a week where they want to use my Monstro to match a Arri shooting ana but Im in a water housing that only fits still glass. 2:39:1 also. Any suggestions? I was thinking just shoot it at 8K on my Monstro with 2:39:1 frame guides and let them crop in post?

Im actually right now working on some b roll pickup shots for a project and Im shooting the full frame Monstro at 8K and then have the 2:31:1 frame guides up to give me the info where to frame.
Doing this gives me supper wides from stills glass that could never be achieved using a smaller format or regular ana's

To me it looks like regular spheric glass.

Russ,

I believe it was shot with the sperical Zeiss Cp3 lenses and cropped for an anamorphic look.I tried to see if the poster of the video had an Instagram account where more info is given, unfortunately I haven't been able to find one.

So I have a fun question to share... If I currently have 2 Zeiss Milvus lenses (25mm & 50mm both F1.4) and I want to add a 3rd one so I only travel kit with 3 lenses when there is no particular gig to do.

Which would be the 3rd lens you would add?

A- Milvus 21mm
B- Milvus 85mm
C- Milvus 100mm Macro

Thanks for sharing your thoughts in advance... :)

I would get an Ultra Wide or a bigger telephoto like a 135.

I would say the ultra wide.... unless you plan on also bringing a tripod to put that long lens on.

I’m a wide-angle junkie, but neither 25 nor 21 are that wide in s35, so I’d go long to have a good interview lens(my two most used int. lenses are 135 and 85). Of you could ignore your own list and go for something ultra-wide. But sticking to your list, I might dump the 25 and go 21, 50, 100 macro.

I might give a different answer if it were generic focal lengths, but you specifically mentioned the Milvus 85 1.4-- one of my favorite lenses! It just produces a fantastically beautiful image. But I also find I'm reaching for longer focal lengths on the gigs I've had in recent days, due to social distancing-- 50 is the new 35. So the 85 gets my vote.

My 3 lens set would be a 25, 35, and 85, but I'd bring both regular adapter and speedbooster.
