  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

does anyone know if Komodo at 2K will crop in for super 16mm coverage (@ 24fps)? I have an old Ang 12-120 HEC that is one of my favorite lenses, it covers R16 through the whole range and S16 from about 40-120. It would be amazing to throw it on a small body.

At 2K, it will be more like a 2/3" sensor (so smaller than 16mm and Super16).

Nick, depends how you want to play it. At 24fps, you can easily shoot 6K FF and record a 2K ProRes.
Or you can crop down to 3K which yields an image circle that covers S16 and shoot REDCODE RAW.

Unless it has changed, I'm pretty sure on Komodo you can't record ProRes and R3D at the same time.

2048 x1080 will be about 9mm x 4.75mm on Komodo. Your 12-120 HEC will cover with no problem. I have one of those too. Really lovely lens. Vignettes a bit in the corners on my digital Bolex below about 25mm. A slight DVE push in, about 5% eliminates it. Covers 2.4:1 scope format without vignetting 2048x854. It is my normal run and gun doc lens on the Bolex.

Are there any other sample R3Ds for download other than Phil's shot of him and a colour chart? Can't seem to find anything else. Considering a lot of the discontent about the pros and cons of Komodo images it would be great to get a few R3Ds. YouTube compression and subjective grades make it difficult to assess... A few great looking shots out there though.

Thanks.

If it's the same as DSMC 2 you can crop to super 16 and record 2K ProRes or something like 3K or 3,5K R3D.

3K would be ideal here, but that's not currently a supported format. Hopefully it will be added. And yeah, ProRes is available, but not at the same time as REDCODE. You have to re-boot the camera to change recording formats. I don't know if that will change before the camera is finalized, that's the way it is now. I don't mind having to re-boot to switch between R3D and ProRes, serves as a bit of a self-check on that. I would really like 3K formats to be added. The feature I'm hoping for most is long-exposure and intervalometer/ time-lapse. The latter can be accomplished with external control, but I'm really hoping longer exposures will be possible here. DSMC2 is limited to 1 second exposure and from there with have to average or stack images.

2.5k would be slightly larger than S16, but S16 lenses would probably cover it. 3k more like M4/3.

HI Chief,
I'm still putting my money together for Komodo hopefully release after the new years I want Classic black, I was going to pay extra 1000 for the black color but good come for free.

Just a big congrats to the small legion of new Stormtrooper, Blue, Yellow, Matte Black, and even a couple other custom finishes that shipped or were picked up in person at RSH.

For those of you here not tracking the crazy efforts of Jarred & Co. over the last few days, it's been an insane look at what contact-less in person delivery looks like (pandemic precautions are at the moment very real here in LA) and rather impressive to see all the folks on the FB and gram picking up their goodies.

Lent out a few batteries and things because it happened so fast and I have plenty of V-Mounts with adapter plates here.

Hope Jarred makes a round up post of all that. Pretty spectacular effort.

I know everyone is chomping at the bit to get their Komodo. I opted to wait until I knew more about the camera and had a clearer sense of upcoming projects where it would be better than a DSMC2.

In the past week I picked up two run and gun projects in October and November outside the US. At this point, is there any chance that I could get a Komodo before the end of September?

So haven't been following in absolute detail and there's a lot to go through.

Has there been any nod to a Stills mode for Komodo? Or would regular record be enough (global shutter v useful here)
What's the boot time like at the moment?
Does it have a low power mode, so like a wake from sleep?
What's the PPI on the top display like, is there a chance to focus off it?
Is it a full global shutter or just v v fast readout?

Just curious,

Cheers
Paul

I was on the list for a stormtrooper, but then I had a shoot coming up and I purchased the 1dx iii as an interim until I can get a Komodo, but then I missed the mark for stormtrooper :(

Is there any update on the black models like even a date estimate?

Sadly I think the stormtrooper list has closed but idk

I don’t think you can, but I assume if you have gotten the first email from Clark, then you are confirmed and just have to wait

For those that have already paid, what's the final price for the Camera? I'm sure its in the thread somewhere, but I can't find it..

[SUP][/SUP]

It's around $7500 with tax and your method of shipping

^ this is correct, but this is also the price for limited edition (so far) and Stormtrooper White bodies. Production Black cams will be a lower/different price.
