  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

I was not mentioning c300 mk2 or fx7.
I have no problems with Sony or Canon menus. Obviously you do not shoot variety jobs for different clients so you do not need different codecs.Nothing confusing at all, after all,we are not operating Hadron Collider, just a camera menu.
Nice colours from both cameras, FX9 now especially thanks to Venice.
Both flexible cameras capable shooting different jobs especially 6ou you are freelancer.....sports,news,commercials,movies,corporate and weddings.
Very flexible cameras with decent AUDIO included. Komodo will be different camera for more niche jobs. Hope it will work and will be reliable. Lets see.

RF-EF Revolva is in progress. I bought the Canon vari-nd myself... it's ingenious and light, but optically not great and ergonomically awful with a tiny fiddly wheel with no actual markings or stops.

I really hope they release ("they" meaning Canon or a 3rd party) release a non-variable ND filter for it. (x4ish)

DEEP KOMODO

DEEP KOMODO

Everyone: So John: is Gates doing anything with KOMODO?

Me: Well, given Gates / RED history reaching all the way back to RED ONE, what do you think?

Everyone: Oh, yeah, right. Duh.

Yes,
DEEP KOMODO is real. More here... REDUSER Bubble Blowers

Would you ever let a diving company, say "Kirby Morgan" give a test to your housing? We should be getting a Komodo soon!

Thanks for the offer. Once we're through our Gates family of testers, we can discuss..

I have 100's of hours underwater with Cameras especially when I lived in Cayman.

There's a few UW projects that have been stuck in my head since the Cayman days and I haven't produced.
Komodo in a housing would be a great excuse to return to Cayman.

John I have the Komodo, keep me on the housing short list if you would please.

That's awesome John!
Can't wait to try it on my Stormtrooper (once things are back on track to ship it)!!!

I'm sure Phil and Curtis will have a first crack at it before I get a chance, so looking forward to all the cool stuff you mighty pioneers can share!

I just bought a 1dx iii as an interim b cam to my dsmc2 until I buy a Komodo. Cf express on the 1dx iii feels solid and I love it but how does it compare to Cfast 2.0? Would cf express have allowed for higher bit rates or how does media factor into the komodos potential?

I wonder if there is a recommended location to engrave on the Komodo? Would love to have my company's diamond laser etched

Hi Clayton,

CFexpress is still a bit of a unicorn and CFast 2.0 is production proven and there are many reliable brands out there.
At the same time, REDCODE does not require faster speeds.
So, at least for Komodo there is no need to go for fairly untested and more scarcely available.

What sensor RED used on Komodo? is it Dragon or cut off Monstro?

It’s actually it’s own sensor. Komodo has a new sensor and if you see the side by side comparison, it’s quite neutral which imo is great for grading. That’s what makes me excited about Komodo is that they can continue to develop the Komodo sensor, and in the future we may even see a VV Komodo sensor. I’m excited to see where komodo goes in the future. I hope Komodo is not a one off and that it continues to get sensor updates similar to DSMC2.

Have you guys heard about the ocean?!

Seriously though. Looking forward to jumping in when that is ready.

With Covid19 underwater is the only safe place to shoot!:wink5:
