Honestly... Not a chance... This is our first time with PDAF. Canon's been perfecting it for years. Luckily all PDAF falls in the same... ballpark but yeah I am willing to bet it will take us a few firmware updates to really get it right.

Thank's for that point Jarred. But does that mean that you'll gonna work on it to get it to that point that it will work fine, but not reaching the level of Canon's DualPixel AF? As a freelance photographer for 30years I'm now getting more and more into Video productions and this little sexy beast will def. be my A-Cam. I'm sure 9 out of 10 units will be sold that way even though Komodo wasn't intended initially for that target. That's the reason why so many people ask for dual ISO, AFc etc.

For me, having Komodo in the African bush and jungle working for WWF and making stuff I simply couldn't before due to size and weight is a bless. Hope the camera's heat sink is kind of separated from the sensible electronic part and has some kind of weather protection. And if you can add a little rubber around the Cfast card door so humidity won't get that fast into the media compartment that be a nice little detail.

Looking forward to see my Komodo at the end of 2020 in Antarctica for a whole month and before that in the Mongolian Desert...

Yeah, I dont think starting a new thread until specs are firm and ready to be announced makes sense. It'll just turn into another bloated, speculative thread.

heh heh heh.. I kinda like that. What do you guys think? should we just milk this thread out as long as we can or try and be "responsible" and break it up into it's own section now for the casual people not to lose their minds skimming through 4000 posts ?

Let's milk it out until the official announcement and keep it underground for the true fierce, if the casuals need an information, they are gently invited to do their homework.. ;)

Such honesty is sadly rare in corporate leadership these days!

I don't care if your AF isn't as good as Canon's, I plan on getting a Komodo anyway. :)

:) And since this is still unofficial, I'm sure you wouldn't mind throwing in some more images from Miami.

Does anybody know what monitor mount that is? Seems like it might be a GDU one but hard to tell with the tape covering it. I don't see it on the GDU site, unless its made specially for Komodo and isn't released yet.

GDU, and you guessed it.. not released yet.

Dayglo Orange might be good (surveying instrument orange) ** …

Or even M*ther F*cker Yellow ~ (Designed by Prof. Albuss [HFG/ZKM] - for BMW -That's a real color.).

IME with smaller multiple cameras on site and elsewhere partially unattended you need something that stands out so that "Peeps" don't stand on or knock over or crush equipment that's not super conspicuous. YES on set things are different in terms of greys and darker tones - Meh.

Those Fotodiox guys seem to be going gangbusters and so cheap / inexpensive ! ?

** Bright / dayglo Orange might also lessen the chance of cameras being stolen and aid easier recovery after they have been stolen (maybe) "It's the bright orange one !!"

Appreciate the info. It’s exciting to see RED adopting PDAF!

I’m most curious as to how the Komodo will operate in low light? One a scale of 0-Gemeni where does Komodo sit?

Nah, it's kinda fun and exciting for us nerds. Hold off until it's all finalized and ready to announce with full specs and pricing details, then lead off the new section with that post, is my thought.

Loving the new pics!

PS if Komodo needs humidity testing you can bring it to visit me in NOLA :D

I trust the power on/off switch will be configurable so it doesn't do a hard shut down if you knock it? These cameras are going to get chucked around a lot!

Oh!! You have changed the design of the power button!
