KOMODO....

That side handle looks slick. I wonder if it has any controls on it - cant be easy to press the camera buttons with those gloves. Don't recall seeing any connectors on the right side though.

Can't figure out what's going on in the second image. Looks like the camera is on but the monitor is off. Also an interesting looking rear cover to protect rear battery connectors while powering from an external battery.

I don't think there is any button on this handle but there are physical buttons on top of the camera.

Seems to be a little beast !

Photo optics. Can Nikon or Canon worth 5 grand with photo optics do the same?

Maybe you are lacking in any knowledge on the topic? You are so full of nonsense and believe so deeply in random headlines and anecdotal evidence it isn't even worth addressing.

No, you have it backward. I've been following the industry in general for quite a while, and while it's been common for every OS to have security flaws discovered after release, Apple took a lot of flak for ignoring them repeatedly for quite a while -- not much different from the fact that it took a class action law suit to get Apple to replace the defective butterfly keyboards.

But you're right; this is off subject, and I'm not bothering to dig up more about it because I know it's not worth the effort.

I'll let it end here.

Komodo codecs

Komodo codecs

I may have missed this, has Red released any info on Komodo recording codecs. I know R3D (lite) has been mentioned. Will we also be able to record in ProRes (4K or 2k) or DNxHR/HD separately or alongside Redcode?

I don't think Jarred has confirmed any codecs other than Redcode yet. That doesn't mean anything one way or another at this stage though. That decision is probably lower in priority than getting the colorimetry and that sort of thing nailed.

Will Hydrogen work as a monitor for Komodo? Or will hydrogen only be used to control the camera through an app like fool control?

So it's impressive that komodo can withstand these temperatures and environment but isn't it also impressive that the small hd monitor can?

Basically smartphone tech in such screens. To me its nuts that they are shaped like bricks and still does not have an internal battery wifi etc.

Zoom lenses

Zoom lenses

Which zoom-lenses would you choose for a Komodo-sized sensor? Do you think lens based IS will be compatible with the camera?

Electronic lens functions on Canon lenses should work with Komodo. I'm looking at the Canon CN-E 18-80 cine servo zoom as a general purpose walk around lens. Parfocal and constant T4.4 aperture throughout the zoom range with optical image stabilization.

It would be nice to have an external follow focus motor port as well, to use the internal auto-focus to control cine lenses like the Canon CN-Es, which have lens data. Would this be possible?

The CN-E series does have external servo port for remote lens control.

It has been said that Komodo has 4k SDI, so there’s your proxy workflow and likely the reason why Soderbergh was using an Atomos inferno.
