  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

While I love the bright color ideas (especially that Kodak yellow one), I would love to see Komodo available in some more muted, more military colors:

Desert Tan:

Gunmetal:

OD Green:

And then of course to go with my Ti Hydrogen...

And then this one's just for me:

That's ridiculous

Yeah, global shutter and full open shutter. Now I want to know about long exposure abilities. Due to form factor, this thing is dying to be mounted on a telescope.

Global shutter makes this camera potentially very appealing for certain kinds of scientific filming.

Good adapters are usually easy to shim. And good PL adapters likely also come with rod mounts allowing the lens, dowtail etc attach to the adapter and not put weight on the actual camera.

So if you would use a big Optimo zoom or such then the camera could just mount more or less a lens cap in the rear of the lens.
Isn't it another way around ? You can mount good adapter to the bridge plate or some other plate under camera.

So let's say having two camera on show there is a need to take third body to put it permanently on ronin. Will it be easy or it will be a workaround? It's enough weight in ULTRA PRIMES, COOKES S4-5 or MASTER's.(no need for a zoom)
Wireless Transmitter, Sound, Wireless Lens Control also needed to be fitted. All I am asking is something neat, small and functional in the works for jobs with a need for that?

Is it confirmed that the use of our current 4.7, and 7" monitors are compatible with the top pogo mount?

I recall reading that the pin layout is different, so I would guess no. Not without some type of adapter.

Things are getting hot here..

Global shutter + 6k @40fps + R3D on such a tiny box at that price tag, that is special..
May i ask what had to be sacrificed in order to get global shutter? Dynamic range / compression?
Or did you guys just find a way to implement it without sacrificing anything?

Time for Graeme to work his magic now, i'm sure he's working hard at it, trying to get the perfect color science.
If i may Graeme, one word and one only, please make it "Organic", the more the technology advances the more we have this "plastic-videoish" look, the Sony Venice for example is pretty awful in that regards..
The problem is i think their point of reference, brands try to beat the newest and freshest toys of the concurrence, a dangerously wrong approach in my opinion.
Look at the Red one Mx, the most filmic Red camera ever and probably the most filmic digital camera, the point of reference was film and like Guillermo Del Toro once said:
"We can only puke what we ingurgitate".

Please watch back the greatest films of our history, those with magic cinematography, like :
Blade runner 1982, Road to perdition, Fight club, Seven, Days of heaven, Children of men, Heat, just to name a few..
Make it alive, full of soul and character please, color and texture wise, i can't wait to see what you're coming up with.

Salute to all the Red team

+1 !!:001_tt1:
If this can be achieve that would be A.W.E.S.O.M.E
Pretty sure Graeme is on its way to make something really cool !!!!

Let's compare the Komodo to what's been released recently!

Sigma FP: FF CMOS / L Mount/ UHD 12bit 24fps / 2400Mbps (on external SSD)/ Price $1900

Panasonic S1H: FF CMOS/ L Mount/ 6K (5952 x 3968)(4:2:0 10-bit LongGOP) 23.98p (3:2 aspect ratio)/ 200Mbps (H.265/HEVC)/ Price $3999

Sony FX-9: FF CMOS/ E mount/ QFHD (4K) XAVC-I 59.94p/ VBR, MAX bit rate 600 Mbps, (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264)/ SDI OUT1: BNC, 12G-SDI/ Price $10998

Blackmagic BMPCC6K /CMOS/ 6144 x 3456 (6K) up to 50 fps/ Blackmagic RAW 3:1 - 2584 Mb/s/ Price $ 2495

Red KOMODO: S35 GLOBAL/R mount /6K 40fps / ???/ Price $???

I modified the contrast on that pict:
-I see a "SEL"/"FN" button?
-And a "Antenna" cover?

It has been confirmed that you will have wome sort of wireless functions (control) of the camera.
As for FN (function I'm assuming)/SEL, seems pretty self-explanatory to me ;-)

Wooow man, congrats!! Looks dooope

Komodo Specs (as of 11/16/2019)

Komodo Specs (as of 11/16/2019)

Been a hot minute, but we're over 2300 posts in this thread and much more Komodo info has dropped since my last details roundup. Plus I've held it in my hands at this point, which is a good thing.

So, here's a quick breakdown of what we know so far.

Komodo Specs (as of 11/16/2019):
- What's Komodo? A RED Compact Utility Camera in a small Cube-Cam form factor ready to pickup and shoot. Just add batteries, lens, media, and likely a display.
- Sensor Technology = New 6K Sensor that features Global Shutter and Rolling Shutter Modes as well as Phase Detect Auto Focus
- Max FPS = 6K FF @ 40fps, 6K WS @50fps. We can guestimate at 5K and 4K fps, but fps might change as they refine things ever so so slightly
- Anamorphic Support = Appears so
- Codec Support = Internal Compressed RAW = REDCODE RAW, unknown if other codecs are supported as of now
- Lens Mount = Integrated Canon RF Mount (easy to adapt to nearly anything)
- Media Type = CFast 2.0 (body features a media slot compartment w/ door)
- Power Options = Dual Slot Canon BP Style Batteries (various capacities) w/ hot swap and ability to run off one battery + DC IN (LEMO) - Lower Power Draw than DSMC2 for sure
- Camera Control = Integrated Touch Screen, On Camera Buttons, Some sort of Smartphone Interface, WiFi Control, EXT Port
- Monitoring = Top Side Pogo Cableless Display Tech, 4K 6G or 12G SDI Out
- Audio = Mic In 3.5mm jack, Headphone Jack, Internal Scratch Mic
- Camera Cooling = It appears there's an internal heat sink and fan w/ vent
- Form Factor = < 4x4x4" and built like a tank IMO
- Body Weight = < 2lbs
- Body Contruction = Appears to be Magnesium/Aluminum Alloy
- Buttons/Indicators = On/Off Switch, Power/Status Indicator, Record Button, Tally Light, Menu, Menu Selection Up/Down, Funtion Set, Playback (probably toggle), 2X Eject Buttons for Batteries, Media Compartment Open
- Wireless Camera Inteface/Control = WiFi w/ Antenna
- Mobile Phone Support = Android and IOS
- Rigging = 1/4"-20 around Pogo, 4X M4 around front of camera, 1X M3 for focus hook, general base plate form factor of DSMC2-style bodies
- Price Point = sub $5,000 USD for Hydrogen One Owners, normal MSRP is a mystery for now
- Camera Release Date = 2020, likely on the earlier side of things
* Might be available in multiple colors based on Jarred's rather favorable response to your Photoshop'n, no Michael Bay FU Nike Green for you however

That's the bulk of it that's been released thus far. Certainly key things being left out still, some more obvious than others.

Most notably things really are the form factor, general integrated accessory mounting and off the shelf support, and the new sensor technology which tackles one of the major issues for cameras that exist in this general space. I'm into the RF Mount as it's easy to adapt to pretty much anything worth getting to.

Global Shutter is going to be very desirable for handheld, drone, and gimbal work and it appears there's a Rolling Shutter Mode too. No real info on what that means towards FPS or DR, but cameras are still going through testing, poking, prodding, etc. Genlocking multiple bodies w/ Global Shutter = Good news for some applications. Sounds like Graeme is working away late into the evening on Color Science and getting the most out of this new sensor tech.

My general thoughts haven't changed much since my hands on. Compact Utility Camera that is really good at being put into a variety of tricky conditions. Largest Capacity CFast 2.0 Cards are 1TB these days, which likely means you'll get about 1-2 hours of 6K FF REDCODE RAW on one of those bad boys if I'm guessing right on the Compression Ratios. Might be some really interest ways to expand that recording time btw. Camera Data Rates and Codec Type don't really need more than CFast 2.0 and that media format has been on the market for a good amount of time now and it's pretty easy to discern what good quality media is in that lot.

Good idea for the reality check Phil!
Nice to have everything in one place!
