KOMODO....

Will we see this interface on DSMC2, its been a long road, would love to see a new menu system:crying: just sayin...

Looks clean

Is that a touch screen???

O yeah and to complete Gregorys 3 wishes...

Tremblay still tweaking but the UI is already pretty awesome.

Love the slick moderately OG tape measure vibe to that ISO selector and a neato reticle, big fan of reticles.

But guys, look closer at that image. Something really interesting in there.

Am I reading to much into this or will we have dual ISO and the standard is 1280 on KOMODO with low light mode being 3200 or ^ wishful thinking ;)

The interface looks great!

That purply-blue Rand posted is disgustingly awesome.

Anyway, don't really care what color it is. I need one of these now. As in shut up and take my money right now!

You should be good then. Pretty safe to say after beating on the stormtrooper all day today you can expect full sensor 6k 40fps, 6k WS @ 50fps. Which means 4k @60fps shouldn't be a problem, but I have not actually tested that yet. And yes, that's all in global shutter mode.

Ok dude, I'm totally IN ! Like crazy !

Looks pretty clean to me. Is it fair to assume it is a touch screen ?

Grrr... I see so many potentially interesting things, I don't know where to begin. Honestly, given the monochrome nature of the interface, I'm really hopping the screen is built on a reflective OLED base layer with black LCD masking. Think like an eInk screen but much more responsive and can be viewed in any lighting condition, including blinding sun. ....I can hope, right?

Assuming that's the media slot to the left of the display, interface pins up front, control buttons on right. I see the battery connectors and power connector on the rear... Screen shows dual batteries, WiFi, blah, blah... we already knew about all that.

Phil, you're killing me...

1/48 shutter @ 48 FPS! Global shutter will be fun and bright :)

Yeah, global shutter and full open shutter. Now I want to know about long exposure abilities. Due to form factor, this thing is dying to be mounted on a telescope.

I'd say that's a pretty safe assumption.

Lots of new info for you guys to chomp on tonight.

Today was a good day for Komodo... my stormtrooper came out of the oven pretty awesome. Still a lot of work to do... but we are right on track.

I know being part of this process can be torture.. you want all the info and you want it now. Just remember you are getting a peek behind the curtain with Komodo. You are watching the process, involved in the process and some of you are really helping the process.

And as much as it seems like I really enjoy teasing the hell out of everyone, As I said from the start of all this I am not telling you stuff until it's done. It's just better that way specially for the Hydrogen folks that are just coming over to this side of RED. I'm not posting specs till I have them literally complete and working in my hand. That happened today with a few of the specs... and you were the first to get them. :)

Looking at the interface, it reminds me of an Android phone, which makes a lot of sense given the tie in with mobile phone control. Whether this means you could theoretically code an app to run on it is another thing but it’s an enticing idea albeit quite unlikely. But a built in touch screen interface with hopefully gorilla glass would be a welcome feature.

Jarred-
Do the batteries draw from one slot until the battery is dead, then start drawing the second battery or is it more a draw from both semi equally until towards the end so you can hot swap? Or is this option selectable?

I’m almost tempted to suggest adding mounting screw holes on the rear edge of the body so that the inevitable Canon to Vlock/gold mount battery adapter could put the weight on the housing as a whole rather than rely on rods or the battery holding tabs. Yes it adds tooling and threading but shouldn’t add more than a couple of grams to the overall camera and could add significant functionality for anything needed on the backside of the camera.

Totally random question but thinking about it now, given the application of the camera as being in the elements, is there any level of weather sealing we can expect? (I’m guessing no which is totally ok =P)

Loving the form factor right now and the options that seem to be available for crazy setups are exciting along with the FPS readout you have revealed. Hopefully 48fps on the full sensor will be possible in the future via firmware if not at launch.

Could that black area on the left side of the screen possibly be a slidebar-thing like you find on Canon R cameras? - or is that for WiFi? :)

antenna.jpg

A bit extreme of a curves adjustment, but I'd say antenna is a safe bet.

Some people will look at the photo below and say

" Yes! that's great I can just fit that into the Heli Gimbal or on the Russian arm to get that one shot "

and then a whole lot of other people will say

" Yes! that's great! I want to shoot my entire movie with that "
Both are correct answers.

The first one is why we made it. The 2nd one is likely how it will be used 1000x more than the first.

I see myself flip-flopping between those two groups. for work.
But if I can also see me replacing my go to Mamiya with this + a GDU lens for an always-with-me camera.

Gorgeous piece of glass too!

UI looks gorgeous!

Thank you Jarred!!!!!!

AND Anamorphic on top of everything else!

Since we are still in the tweaking phase, do you think it's possible to use it as a stills camera for single frame R3Ds?

BTW, since the pins up top are greyed out as well, one can infer that the photo is monochrome and not necessarily the display.

And again a HUUUUGE thank you!

Nope, that's the antenna for wifi

And would you say that ISO1280 is kind of the base/native/chimichanga ISO ? :D

So lucky to have access to the process and people like Jared willing to let us all in. We will get all the info we want soon enough. The specs so far look amazing, and have left so many questions. For me personally, with everything already confirmed, if it does 100fps in full HD or better then I'll be getting one in a heart beat as it will be my A cam and first forray into Red ownership, renting them plenty has made me a huge fan though. Looks like this camera is going back to old Red, setting itself years ahead of everyone else.
