  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

Considering the weak nits of the hydrogen... I think it would be more vice to make a mount for an Iphone instead. Sad but true.

No way to do a monitor interface to the iphone except SDI to USB-C converter and an app. Does such an app exist for external video input?

I’m thinking more along the lines of DSMC2 Weapon, Helium,Gemini, Dragon... Will those ports on the hydrogen and DSMC2 line up and play nice?

I've asked Hydrogen support this a couple of times, but nobody will give me a straight answer. Not sure why. Either the feature has been scrapped, or they are still working on it. Whatever the case, I don't understand why they don't let us know.

Although I somewhat agree, I for one will only be using hydrogen as only a monitor, not a phone. It will be much better then iPhone as a monitor, way more durable, especially the one cased in titanium.

At first, Komodo's integration with Hydrogen gave me some hope that the feature would trickle across to DSMC2, but it appears Komodo uses a different protocol, so I now think this is unlikely.

USB-C to lightning you mean?

As for monitoring with DSMC (or any HDMI source) this might come in handy

Haven't tested it yet, so no clue about lag.

I think what a lot of people around here who purchased a hydrogen were expecting, is a DSMC2 pogo to Hydrogen pogo cable or mount that would allow us to monitor and control DSMC2 cameras using the Hydrogen. It seems Red is doing the this on the Komodo. Maybe there's a technical reason why they can't do it on DSMC2?

Love to hear it one way or the other.

I think they abandoned all of that and focused on a real camera which, because of the abandoned promise to all of us with a Hydrogen, means we get a discount on Komodo.

they wont.. it is a completely different protocol. It's not HDMI/SDI coming out of those top pins its a camera interface which is the part I can't tell you about yet :)

Thsiis what Jarred said about hydrogen integration with Komodo vs DSMC2.
Komodo is not the compact phone camera module, but it apparently will electronically interface to Hydrogen just like a module would have. I don’t think the Hydrogen interface will be abandoned for pro level cameras, but H2 is likely to make a consumer camera module unnecessary given how fast multi-sensor array technology is progressing.
We currently install a 39 megapixel seamless 180 degree 4k webcam with a 3 x 13 megapixel sensor/lens array. 3x digital PTZ @ 4k rez, 6x @ 1080p output. Add software lens emulation with selective focus, dof, and bokeh, why would you pay another grand or two for a consumer camera module? Multiple small sensors will get you to large sensor resolution and aesthetics in the phone.

Perhaps. And if I decide to buy a Komodo, the Hydrogen discount will certainly make me feel better about my phone. But a cable that allows me to use my Hydrogen to monitor and control my DSMC2 seems like an easier thing to develop.

Looking back, the question was will DSMC2 monitors work on Komodo and answer no different protocols. I’m asking will Hydrogen work as a monitor with DSMC2 body through a cable?

Probably not. Either because of a technical issue or because not enough people purchased Hydrogens, so they can't justify the development costs.

When Hydrogen was being released that was something they were telling us that it would work... I remember thinking of getting a Hydrogen just for this reason. But there might have had a few changes... maybe someone that is on the hydrogen forum knows if this is still a thing?

I have no doubt that Red will be generous with early Hydrogen owners. Rewarding the risk takers is part of their DNA.
But Jarred's message regarding Komodo pricing is a bit cryptic. Does it mean a discount, or does it mean you have your on camera monitor and control if you already own Hydrogen, or some of both?
Will discounts or trade ins for H1 owners be offered towards H2, about which we know nothing yet?

My dji drones does this perfectly well... with and without cable to the phone. They do not cost +5k USD... Zcam does it aswell I beliave.

If red could deliver somthing like the mavic2 interface app for comondo that would be king. pretty much no lag, in phone proxies and editing, downoading and installing updates via tge phone, etc etc.
