KOMODO....

So that is a screen

Certainly looks like it. It also could be an abyssal void to stare into your soul, but going with the more likely answer.

And nobody seems to be curious about "antenna" on there?

. I read it as a curtain for a later reveal....The antenna throws me as well...

Phil,

Did you notice the "play" button , the last button down on the right?

Likely something to do with those little shiny gold pins on the top of the camera....

wow what a reveal of komodo's top! AWESOME! The Screen on the top reminds me a lot on the design of my old Mamiya 645 and RZ67. I always liked to take photos like that. LOVE IT!
And the Pogos give again a lot of possibilities to use the Cam differently.

it looks like the screen will not have a touch function. The buttons next to the screen are intended for menu navigation, I suppose.

I still wonder about the following points:
Will it be such a cool handle as the Mamyia ones ;) Or some sort of Cowboy Handle from GDU?
Antenna... hmm, maybe some sort of communication with more cams or similar to the redmote maybe wireless-video-output attaching some USB Wireless-Stick or something else... - I'm curious

Happy as hell to see a screen up there. Big time!

Even happier you're continuing with the pogo/cableless mentality. I know I'm not everybody in this industry but with DSMC2 I haven't missed using Cine Arms at all and the ludicrous time cableless actually saves has been a huge benefit.

Happy too to see that top.
The camera design looks like RED's take on the Zcam format (and it looks better to me) which is interesting.
I assume the screen on top will be for settings and menu like de screen on the Sidekick DSMC2 add-on or on the side of an Alexa, Venice and so on.
Also happy to see the pins. Looks like Hydrogen pins, not DSMC2 but still good news. I already imagine some sort of bracket to use the phone as a top mounted screen.

Now for the million dollars question : is the SmallHD monitor on the Instagram photo just a troll or is there an actual way to connect it without (apparent) cable like maybe by using the pins. (in that case, if you own an Hydrogen phone you already have the monitor and if not, SmallHD is an option)

And the million dollar question has been answered .. thank you Jarred ... now ... "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY" :)

Jarred, this is really a beautiful machine!
Every angle of it makes me want it even more!!!
(as if I didn't want it enough by now!)
And I kinda suspect where you are going with it........ ;)

Please share with us (even I too suspect something).

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Pogo port ontop of the Komodo 6K has more pins than usual but still backwards compatible with say my DSMC2 RED Touch 7.0 ?

Unlikely unless there's an adapter. The pins on a DSMC2 pogo are protected by a ridge that fits into a groove on the camera.

It seems to be an Hydrogen compatible connector.

EDIT : I hope you'll all enjoy this incredible photoshoped picture. :p

then I really really really really hope for an adapter ...

Jarred ... All I want for X-mas is an Komodo 6K with an DSMC2 pin adapter ... then I will be one happy camper

Mad photoshop skills! Same number of pins, except for the pair of larger pins on either side of the middle row on the Komodo. Hard to tell but looks like the Hydrogen has a pair of recesses in the same position, but no connectors. Power perhaps?

I really really really hope for an DSMC2 adapter for that Komodo 6K pogo port ... if I can hook my DSMC2 monitor to the Komodo this is a done deal for me ... Would be awesome if we can get our hands on a Komodo before X-mas .. know just the projekt I will be using this one on ...

I don't know. But I suppose Power should be involved in a way because Hydrogen's battery is not swappable so it has to be powered at some point.

Yeah, I would assume the Hydrogen was powered by the camera. Perhaps the larger pins on the camera are 12V power for other accessories. Some other thoughts:

I wonder if the top screen will work for playback/monitoring or if it is just for settings. Vertical aspect implies it is not designed for monitoring, but play symbol on rearmost button has me wondering. Maybe the triangle just signifies enter/select?

I don't think we have any assignable buttons at all. Perhaps this has to do with doing "one thing very, very well" that Jarred mentioned.

There are 40 pins. Assuming 26 of them match the DSMC2 pogo and send power, video, and touch data, what could the other 14 do?

Four 1/4-20's to bolt on a monitor is a lot. This is obviously designed to carry the weight of the camera/lens.

To me, the top screen is only for settings/menus.

If we compare (again) to a Zcam (E2-S6 for example), it has 2 arrow buttons, a menu button, a FN and a OK buttons.
Maybe what looks like a "play" button and the other one on top of the Komodo body are the equivalent of the FN and OK ?

So the smallHD from the picture is some kind of unannounced Cine 7, with a pass through hinge for less cables ?

Will you sell LEMO B adapter to Hydrogen pogo ? (or Lemo A I don't remember)

The top screen is only for menus and playback ?
