  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO Release Build 1.6.4 February 4, 2022

Ok, perhaps I'm 'flogging a dead horse' here but one last try:

Could RED Users consider sending off a quick email to RED expressing the wish to see reliable TOD and T/C upon camera start up.

featurerequests@red.com

RED sent me a reply suggesting it might not be a priority because nobody (except me!) asks for it?

"Hello William,

Thank you for the reply, and no problem I am more than happy to help.

As the option to have this implemented is not within the last FW update, it doesn't mean that it is not being looked into by our team at RED HQ, the way our Feature Requests work is when enough requests are coming through in regards to the same thing, it is then looked in to further.

At this moment in time, this is not something that is coming into us very often but from your request, I have highlighted this so hopefully something will be within the next FW release.

Please let me know if you do have any further questions, or if you are happy for me to close the ticket."

Nuff said.

A few days ago I sent an email to that address concerning Komodo retaining TOD TC between bootups.

Have not heard anything back.

Perhaps we should send links to the various threads on
RU that mention how frustrating this issue is.

This is a cinema camera not a consumer/prosumer kit by any means.

This basic TC function should be built in full stop.

Theres enough people on this board with a negative
and pessimistic take on RED and it’s future.

Would be bad to see RED validate them with reluctance to fix an issue like this.

Seriously, activating the TOD TC can likely be made automatic during the boot process.

I already made them aware of this and was told by support this thread was being referenced when putting in the request to add this feature. Everyone loves to complain online and very few like to actually email in support requests. I would imagine we will see this added soon since date and time is now being properly maintained through reboots.
The TC jam thing isn't really an issue on any serious production as TC will be fed into the camera anyway. I pretty much always have a Tentacle connected to my Komodo but it's just one of those dumb things that should work as expected.

Yes, I agree Andrew.
But I do feel the whole point of the Komodo is it's small form factor. For fast, close in, very intimate documentary work you really don't want lots of extra crap hanging off it. It defeats the object. And that's the point. Just sayingt 'hang a tentacle/ultra sync' (which I do) is arguing for the camera's limitations.

It's not like we are asking for the impossible here. Cameras from 30+ years ago could do it without little boxes so why can't these 'marvels' manage?

Could definitely do with this being fixed. Find it really annoying when keeping things as small as possible. Zaxcom handles it the rest of the time. 5
