• Added Sync Out and Tally GPIO support
• Added Beep Speaker sounds
• Added 'Peripheral Upgrade' message
• Added BMWAV filename to clip metadata
• Fixed USB-C Static IP address on power up
• Fixed data/time reset on boot
• Fixed RF 800mm F11 IS STM lens displaying f/11.3 twice
• Fixed SDI audio with only Channels 3/4 enabled
• Fixed clamping of user entered shutter angle

Nope!

1.6.4 still can't hold TOD (Timecode) on boot up. Goes back to zero.:mad2:

EDIT : VAXIS 600KV now works after 6-7 attempts - don't know why?! (Red batteries on the Vaxis atom 600kv are now suddenly unapproved.)

Haven't looked further but things are getting worse - heading towards Gamma version. It's a bit of a joke.

Submit a ticket regarding the battery issue. You should likely mention the timecode thing too.

Honestly with several of those features being in beta moved to release, that is actually stuff to be happy about. But I digress.

Of all the great qualities of Komodo this is a low point.
Please RED. This is a problem that undermines using this otherwise stellar camera.

If for some reason there is a technical issue for the camera to retain TOD after shutdowns,
please consider a function where one can have Komodo AUTOMATICALLY jam TC to TOD after reboots.

Getting this fixed would make life easier for many of us.

I sustain this. Having to sync the TC to TOD everytime you boot the camera is a pain for everyone out there.

RED replied as follows:

I understand your frustration, and this is something that is being discussed and looked into.

I don't have a fix for you right now for keeping the TC set to TOD, but we are continuing to look into this, so once I have an update I will be back in contact.

The only fix I can offer or advise on is to use an External Timecode Source that connects to the cameras EXT Port, or switch the option from TOD to EDGE, see the information from page 83 of the Komodo Operation Guide.


Besides this problem, great camera!

Nice to see that someone from RED acknowledges the issue as we're experiencing it but damn
this is one of the most odd issues to have on a camera.
Attaching GAK for something basic like retaining TOD is not an ideal fix.
RED, we're rooting for you to have a fix soon.

Red PLEASE in future update !

• more resolutions and aspects ratios ex: 4.5k in 16:9 and more
• Roling shutter mode witch higher FPS on resolution for example 6k 50FPS
• custom widgets on main menu
• faster booting witch out permanently black shading.

I'd really like TOD auto-jam option, too. But it's not quite so bad as a car missing a wheel, is it? I mean, my Komodo still "drives." Maybe it's more like the dome light stays on unless you turn it off ;-)

Yes, of course you're right, it's a great little camera.

But the TOD / TC issue is really annoying and I don't want to hang additional equipment off it. The whole point (for me) is to keep it small.

My Aaton XTR from the nineties could hold sync perfectly - 30+ years later and this isn't available?!

Personally, I find it hilarious that Red would suggest hanging an external TC generator on the Komodo as a fix. C'mon folks, fix the issue and quit with the rediculous work-arounds.

Please RED:

- I second the need for a HORIZON line.
- TIme Code jam is Top Priority
- A way to assign the Physical Function Buttons to at least one or two fuctions (False Color / Peaking for example). You could make it so you go into the TOOLS menu, and then can press and hold the FUNCTION button while pressing the UP or DOWN arrow to activate a key. The physical buttons are anyway deactivated in that menu, so why not put them to USE?

I can only recommend for the time being that you submit a feature request for this to be implemented in future builds, RED greatly values your ideas and suggestions for current and future products. Sigh, this is what I was afraid of. All beta features will never be finished if basic features aren't working properly. It's been a long time now since release and we still haven't got any firmware that addresses basic features. Red needs to double down on finishing Komodo before pulling all focus into Raptor. I wouldn't be surprised if the main focus now is on the Raptor XL instead, so both Komodo and Raptor get slower progress. This is why people start moving away from Red and into other systems because everything seems to be beta with Red cameras now. Usually, higher cost cinema systems cost a lot because you get something very robust and since Red has always maintained marketing that resembles military style, it's an irony that military tech always has robustness and reliability as its main core feature, nothing that seems to fit the current state of cameras.

Since the decline of information transparency between Red and the community, we've seen a much less robust system. Right now, I feel more comfortable using off the shelf Canon or Sony mirrorless cameras than my Red cameras. And since there's no official roadmap or real communication on this forum, it's just guesswork from the community about the future of Red systems. We're just hoping to get issues fixed, beta featured completed or additional hardware that improves our systems before Red goes all-in on a new camera or sensor or tech to hype up. In earlier days, the hype was earned, it was a celebration on Reduser whenever something was about to release. But now, all that hype tension devolves into disappointments.

So I would suggest people make a quick request for TOD / TC on start up if they think it is important enough.

Previously, feature requests or ideas for the R&D team and problem-solving were discussed on this forum. But now, I think a big problem is that everything is just streamlined into that request email input. If they glanced at this forum for what the community considers problems, that would inform them on what people feel is needed.
