  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Komodo -Audio

Anyone come up with a good method to connect a Tentacle Sync up to a Komodo? I have the BNC to Ext that Red made available but I have no good way to adapt it to connect to the Tentacle.

I guess the best option would be to get a TRS to 9-pin lemo cable made?

If you need Phantom power, you need a mic pre amp.[/url]

There are in fact standalone battery-powered phantom power units from manufacturers like Whirlwind and Rolls and Sony. I don't think you necessarily need a preamp with additional audio circuitry in between if you use one of these-- though that may depend on the output your mic. Once my Komodo arrives, I plan to test a Sennheiser 416 (classic, but not the highest output) into a Sony dual-channel phantom power unit (built to work with their portable recorders like the PCM-D50), which outputs to stereo 3.5mm.

The tentacle Sync Track E just went live for orders today: https://tentaclesync.com/track-e I took a chance and ordered two, so I could test them out.

The idea of a small bodypack recorder that tracks timecode from the Tentacle on the camera and bypasses the need for any
extra cables and boxes kind of excites me. Keeps the handheld documentary package small.
Apparently each one has 10 hours of record time, and comes with a license for Tentacle Sync Studio so you can sync everything up.

I'll report back once they arrive and I can test them out... Sounds like I have a shoot coming up with Matty Matheson - A great guy but an audio recorder nightmare.
